Any experience booking a same day reservation?

We're heading to the World this weekend - actually, I'm heading there to visit my sister who is a local resident.

Both of our birthdays are at the end of the month, and as a treat to ourselves we've been debating staying on property. Our plan was to lounge at the pool Friday and Sunday, and go to MK on Saturday and take advantage of the evening EMH.

I can't seem to commit to a resort, or justifying the cost for the weekend. She's never stayed on property, and I really think it would be a nice "get away". My thoughts are to try to get a room on Friday with the hopes that the rate would be a little cheaper. Anyone have any luck with that?

Disney does not do last minute discounts. You might be able to find a small discount if you go thru a booking site like Orbitz. And if you are attempting a same day reservation, on a weekend, for more than one night, you'd better be prepared for limited availability. Some resorts may be sold out or have on!y the higher priced rooms available!e.

We were staying at OKW last month and didn't care for the resort so I called and made a new reservation at WL while we were there. We switched resorts the next day and we got the room discounted as well. We had only a few resorts to choose from because of limited availability but if you aren't fussy on where you stay it is possible.

Yes, but only via DVC. It can be done, but of course only if there is availability. As far as discounts, you'll get them only if a regular discount is still available. The won't add an additional discount because they are trying to get rid of a room at the last minute.

This! In most instances when booking a regular WDW resort room same-day, you get stuck paying full (or nearly full) rack rate.

I've booked same day rooms at both the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary (during peak season) but you will be paying rack rate!

Yes. It's the current, full, non-discounted rate for the room.

Also, if there is an active discount for the time you are staying, then they will give it to you. Depending on when you are planning the stay this weekend, you might be able to get a discount. There is a room only discount for "most" stays 8/15 -10/3 and you can book through 8/31. - https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/broad-room-only/

So, you might be able to get a discount depending on resort availability if you are not wanting a room before Saturday.

Years ago, I was able to make a reservation day of and got a discount at CSR. My mom had to call for me since I was driving. I was actually staying at Music, but it meant I did not have to find a room off-site that night. I had made better time than I planned so did not need to stay in Georgia that night.

Disney has adapted to what other hotels do. The higher the occupancy the higher the rate goes.
