Started on Friday, Dr. confirmed on Sat. (Benign positional vertigo)- how long can I expect this to last? It's not horrible, but very annoying, if I move my head a certain way I get a roller coaster feeling! I'm afraid to drive, can't wear heals because I'm afraid of falling over. Started to feel a little better yesterday but today it feels like its back to square one. Please tell me if you had any experience with it! Can I do anything to help it go away quicker? Help.

I have had vertigo twice over the last 15 months. The first time it lasted about 3 weeks but was only severe for a few days. The second time it lasted about a month but was very mild and I could still function as normal.
I believe that there is a treatment that an ear, nose and throat specialist can do that involves some sort of 'physical manouve' that can help but after the treatment you have to sit upright for at least 24 hours. I will probably consider this treatment if the vertigo comes back again or is more severe than I've had to date.
My doctor suggested that stress can be a trigger but I don't feel that stress is an issue for me..............but who knows.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

Trish

I had a horrible case of vertigo that lasted 3 months about 4 years ago from an inner ear infection that wouldnt go away. I had various MRIs done and doctors couldnt detect nothing except that I developed a slight hearing loss afterwards. Otherwise, at points, I remember barely being able to walk a straight line and finding a comfortable position in bed w/o feeling like I was spinning was unbearable.

I get it from two different sources one is the positional related to the Crystals in the ear being out of place last time I had that it lasted two months. I also have MS and get it whenever out of the blue and that is bad.
I gave up driving years ago unless a true emergency because of it. Vertigo is different from what most people think of as dizzy, since when it hits you, especially the MS version it feels like you are suddenly being ripped off the planet and you grab anything and hold on. It would be disasterous to drive and have it strike.
For the positional there are excercises you can do that your doctor should have told you about.

My mom had it for almost three months and it was quite the deal. She is healthy, active, and (at the time) was 56. She couldn't drive, had trouble walking, and the doctor could never determine the exact cause. They treated her for inner ear infections and kept rotating antibiotics until all it once it cleared as quickly as it came. It's been 4 years since the experience. She had nothing else obviously wrong....just the vertigo.

I get a mild type of vertigo if my neck and shoulder muscles get very tight. If I turn my head the room keeps spinning. If I'm standing still, the concrete floor seems to ripple.
Therapeutic massage and muscle relaxers have helped the three times I've had it.
The first time it developed was after driving 7 hours straight with my arms lifted high on the steering wheel.

Hope yours goes away soon!

yep another sufferer here - I was afraid to leave my home - staying on the couch - tried 2 or 3 different medications, got it under control, but still, from time to time (and those flourescent lights set it off too! not to mention ceiling fans!) doctor said it was related to "loose crystals" which dd thought was hysterical (mom has loose rocks in her head!) (gotta luv humor!)

actually went to Disney - and rode that RnRC ride (it was a dh and I only trip and dh rode Tot for me, and begged me - later he realized he forgot about my vertigo!!)

and I havent suffered since!! :lmao: I'm sure it was a coincedence - but I DONT care!!

A friend gets it off and on. I think hers if from the crystals some are describing, and what she has said. The last time it happened she rode the water slide at the gym and it fixed her problem.

I met someone else who is on disability after an injury. She could barely get dressed and walk. She was finally treated by a specialist up near cleveland. She had seen many doctors locally, but had no clue how to treat it. So make sure you find someone who has experience, and if you get sent to thearapy make sure they have lots of experience in that too. This friend mentioned that she had been sent to local therapists who hadn't had enough experience and were making things worse for her.

SO sorry! DH has the same thing (BPV). His spells normally last about a week or so. Drives him crazy. Not to mention makes work a real pain since he's a diesel mechanic so the constant up down make the vertigo worse. He's tried the meds but they don't work. Actually, he sees a chiropractor every few weeks and that has been huge help. The vertigo attacks are few and far between but not gone. Might be worth a try.

Good luck!

I have intermitant vertigo from Meniere's Disease. Fortunately it is mild enough not to be real issue at this point. I do have to grab something when it hits or I may fall. Done that a few times. Bugs me even more that my hearing goes out on me for a time. Full deaf then.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies, just wanted to update- I am feeling sooo much better, it really has almost disappeared. Everyonce in a while, I do move my head too fast and feel a "shooosh" but nothing as constant as last week. I serioulsy hope it never comes back, that was horrible. Thank you everyone for your advise and stories.

Glad that you are doing better! Vertigo stinks. In the past my vertigo only lasted for a few moments and always seemed to be brought on by something I did. Sunday I woke up with it and couldn't even walk for about 4 hours it got so bad. Finally went to our local urgent care and the dr. gave me some exercises to do. Monday woke up and it has been fine since. The dr. did tell me if it comes back and lasts more than a couple days he would send me to physical therapy where there is a physical therapist who specializes in vertigo. Who knew?

well, your vertigo must've come to visit me!! lol (j/k) Since I posted "I;ve been fine ever since" well that was the kiss of doom!! lol

I've been getting "episodes" on and off - I just try to ignore it, but again, I have the medicines I have to start up again!

dd said it must be time to go on RnRc again!! lol

First time sufferer here. At least I THINK that's what it is. For the past week have been having episodes. It is like someone flips a switch. One minute I am fine, next minute I can't stay upright. First time it happened, I had severe nausea as well. Seems to be less frequent the last two days but if it continues, may have to see MD.

Uggg!
