My brother is going to Disney in May, and he wanted to stay at AKL. I told him that I did not like it, that I prefer WL. I thought AKL had a zoo smell. So the question is does anyone else think this? I just do not want to make him miss something, just because I did not enjoy it there. So any opinions on which you like the best would be appreciated WL or AKL.

we didn't notice any "zoo" like smell while we were there.

It didn't smell like a zoo to me. But the hallway where our room was had a funky garbage bin kind of smell. I called the front desk first day of our stay. Four days later, the smell was still there. It was only in a couple of hallways. Other than that, I thought most of the resort had rather nice smells, especially the lobby.

We have stayed there three times and never noticed any smells except that wonderful smokey aroma in the lobby.

I will be making my fourth trip to AKL in December. Have stayed in savannah view and pool view rooms and I have never smelled anything offensive when I was there ...........EVER.
I have smelled the wonderful aromas wafting from Boma however! Yummy!

But with all the wonderful resorts to chose from, why not pick one that you BOTH could enjoy? :cool1:

The thing I miss most about AKL is the wonderful aromas as you walk in the lobby. I would stay here everytime if it wasn't so far from MK!

:confused3 Can't imagine what you are smelling! All I ever smell is delicious smells from the restaurants & wonderful incense-like smells from the fire pit.
I have never smelled anything unpleasant from my savannah view balconys, either.
It's my favorite WDW resort! :sunny:

Thanks everyone, I guess I am ultra sensitive haha. Someone asked why we do not agree on one, it is not a trip for me it is my brothers family going. I just did not want him to miss out on something, because I did not enjoy it. If you had to choose between WL or AKL, which do you think would be better. For atmosphere, dining, location etc?

I did not detect an animal smell of any kind, even when I was near the savannahs. The resort has a smokey/spicy food that gave it almost a "foreign" ambiance.

AKL is my favorite, followed closely by WL - we are doing WL in 2 weeks, mostly because we will have some little ones with us, and will be spending a lot of time at the MK, as well as doing MVMCP.

We have stayed at AKL five times since it opened and are booked for our sixth stay this coming Jan 06. The only area that we have ever noticed a smell was by the bird area our by the pool at the Uzima Overlook. We have actually been on the three resort savannas while on the Sunset Safari and there was no zoo smell.

When I think about AKL, I think of that wonderful smell that fills the lobby. It is absolutely not a zoo smell.

I love how AKL smells, definitely not like a zoo.

Never smelled anything bad.

I always choose AKL over WL b/c AKL is a lot newer- I don't think WL has ever been refurbished.

AND AKL doesn't share busses w/other resorts like WL. Yeah, you can take a boat to the MK, but its sloooow, so I feel like the transportation is a negative aspect of WL.

Thanks everyone for the info, I think I may have not been a good judge of the resort. I usually stay at the Poly, so I guess I am just used to that resort. I think I will tell my brother to try it, most people seem to like it over the WL. Thanks again for all your input.

I wish I could bottle the AKL smell and bring it home with me LOL! It isn't a zoo smell, it is a woodsy, smoky, warm smell.
