Just wondering if anyone here has seen this particular Disney tv commercial yet ? DH & I were watching tv late last night and Disney commercial came on regarding a free one day ticket to Disney park beginning in January 2010 based on person doing a number of hours of volunteer service.....this was first I'd heard of it, I took a quick look just now on some of the other boards (Theme Park, Budget etc ) and didn't notice any threads.

idk exactly what was said because I happened to be reading while 'watching' tv but I think it said something about ' designated organizations ' regarding volunteer work and a day's worth of time (?) but something about
' 60 hours ' I thought I heard too.

Just wondering how members regularly give volunteer hours ? no doubt many of us do :-D (thumbs up)

DH & I do at least a couple times of year with our church, kid's schools & with our neighbor's organization that ships care packages to our troops; but don't know if this would count towards this promo, guess we'll know when Disney releases further details.

:goodvibes

Interesting footnote:

You must sign up through this site to volunteer and complete your service at an eligible volunteer opportunity in the fifty US states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or Canada to receive a ticket. Ticket quantities for this program are limited. You must be at least 18 to sign up. Children must be at least 6 to participate in the program.

Program begins January 1, 2010 and continues until tickets are distributed or until December 15, 2010, whichever occurs first.
You may only sign up a maximum of 8 members of your household.

They are giving a million tickets out. Not sure how "limited" that is on a relative terms.

Thanks for that link Bill :thumbsup2

Yes I agree Debbie, that is an interesting footnote.....I'm surprised too that kids as young as 6 can participate, kinda figured they'd make it teens and up.

I'm thrilled that they are including children as young as six. You can never be too young to learn about service to others. My son is almost-5 and this coming Saturday, he is participating in a day of service at our local university. I wish the Disney promotion wasn't limited to age 6 because I can't qualify for it. It doesn't do me any good if I get a free day and he doesn't. It's not like I'm going to go to the park without him. :confused3

My DH donates 30 to 40 hours a month to the police bureau as a reserve officer with free time he doesn't have.....wonder if that will count?

I was not being critical of the merits of including young children. My kids have been doing service related events outside of our home since kindergarten too. My first thought was that there would be an minimum number of hours required which might prove to be too lengthy for younger children to endure but from what I've read on this after I posted that does not seem to be the case.

The promotion is not limited to children & up to 8 members of the same household can get a ticket and the free ticket can be used towards purchase of AP or mulit-day ticket so even if your son isn't eligible it may be a good value for you. :goodvibes

To summarize main points: Ages 6 and up, eight members of same household max may register, all service opportunities must be arranged through Disney Give A Day, Get a Day site & service opportunities must be chosen from the website offerings so anything other will not qualify, service will be verified before the voucher(s) is sent via email for free ticket (approx 2 weeks after service is performed) and at redemption time at Disney park of choice each person must be present and have valid id & their voucher including kids for ticket(s) to be issued, ie parent cannot just go to ticket window to give vouchers in for rest of family. Disneynutz post above has link to all info.

Don't know for sure, but based upon what I've read so far I would say it would not count. It has to be a volunteer opportunity as indicated on Disney site which is directing interested volunteers to HandsOn Network - - it seems that volunteer service will have to be at opportunities through HandsOn Network. Here is link to Disney faq

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/di...-A-Day-Get-A-Disney-Day-Terms-Conditions-FAQs

When I clicked on link in faq to HandsOn Network, I input my zipcode & it gave volunteer opportunities nearby by home but comes Jan 1 2010 I don't know if just certain opportunities will be specifically linked to the Disney promo or if any&all that are listed on HandsOn Network will qualify. And also, note that the Disney faq says that volunteer service performed from Jan 1 2010 & on will only count towards the free ticket so hours from 2009 will not count.

Hope this helped a bit :)

I guess I will have to order new copies of the kids birth certificates. It seems a little overboard to require goverment issued id for children. And what good does a birth certificate do? It's not like it has a picture? :confused3
