How does Cesar Millan do that???? And will he come to my house to? Petey is pretty well behaved but like all dogs he has a couple of issues I'd like to work on. I'm picking up Cesar's book today to see if he can help me. Anyone else hooked on this show too?

I LOVE this show!! I have used his technics with my dogs (I am a breeder) And they work! :thumbsup2 He is awsome!! I also have his DVD people training for dogs. I think he's coming out with another DVD too. Can't wait for it!!

His new book was just published last month. Haven't tried the dvd's yet. Just joking around I did that finger snap/point/shhh thing he does and Petey sat right up and looked at me! I don't know what it is about that that gets their attention but something does.

I've never used the type of leash that goes directly behind the ears like he uses (the show ring type) but that's exactly what we need. Petey lives to go for walks but he pulls so hard he chokes himself. He also likes to dawdle and sniff every blade of grass rather than get his exercise which Cesar addressed last night on one of his shows. Hopefully his techniques work on my hyper little guy.

Did you see where he's being sued? Supposedly (I don't buy it) a tv producer took his dog to Cesar's ranch to work on some issues. He says the dog was choked and forced to run on a treadmill. I just can't imagine him doing that but, you know, it's a tv show and it's edited to show us the best of what he's doing so you never know. Still, the guy seems to be a miracle worker with dogs. I'm going to pick up the book and see if I can make Petey even better than he already is using some of his techniques.

I saw that too...

I admit I'm not a fan...mostly because I've never watched the show. But I have heard wonderful things about him and am looking for a DVD or something.

Anyway, about that lawsuit...I think it could very well be true but I"m not sure I believe Cesar actually did anything wrong. From what I can tell, it may have been his staff who is really responsible (although Cesar, as "owner" will have to accept ultimate responsibility). I think there's probably much more to the story...

Yes, I am a fan and have seen every show, including the "SouthPark" episode.:lmao: This weeks episode was a little on the weird side.

I have read the book.
Cesar shared alot of his life in that book so you understand where he is coming from.

I hadn't heard about the lawsuit, I can see accidents happening with dogs. I am just waiting for someone to get hurt walking into the psychology center.

I do use his basic principles. Actually I was aware of "dominance" and alpha stuff but his methods of applying it are very easy and good. Less harsh than the old ways.

That's actually what I was trying to say and didn't quite. Cesar himself I just don't believe would do anything like that. It's entirely possible that others in his employ could have though. And yes, ultimately, what his employees do is his responsibility.

Check Amazon or any bookstore for his book. It's only been out a month. I would look on eBay for dvds. I did find them new on Amazon for about $30 each. Remember that he doesn't advocate training your dog so much as understanding them. If you understand them and their psychology they'll easily do what you want them to. I'll keep you posted on how well his techniques work on Petey.

I'm not sure I WANT to understand their psychology! They're a bunch of CRAZY puppies! ;)

In all seriousness...two are rescues and they have their own "issues". Buddy seems to need some help understanding that DH is his boss too, and won't hurt him.

I'll have to look more for the DVD's...and I think I'll check Amazon out now...

I love the show, but If Ceasar showed up at my house and did that "psst" thing, Mickey, the boy, would lick him to death, and Lady bug, the girl, would run and hide, she HATES that noise! :sad2: I tried it a few times, and Lady ran with her tail between her legs and I felt sooo bad, it took me 15 min for her to come NEAR me again, so that would be a NO for Ceaser. ;) I will just learn to live with mine the way they are!

Well I can report that using the show lead and the shhh sound......WORKS!!! For the first time in his life, Petey walked on leash right next to me. Usually he pulls so hard on his leash that chokes himself. We'll be working on the sniffing every blade of grass thing. For today it was quite the little victory for both of us.

LOVE The Dog Whisperer. I'm almost done with the book and it's a great book on a lot of levels not just the dog training aspect. He really opens your eyes on the immigration issue even though the book isn't about that at all. It just makes good points. This man is amazing. I did some reading on the suit last night and it appears it was a worker not Cesar himself hopefully this incident won't take away from the good that's been done. That dog obviously had SOMETHING happen I just hope they address that incident and not the Dog Psychology Center in general as it's done amazing work for a lot of people and dogs.
Teh show has oppened our eyes to the fact that our "Mellow" dog is sometimes "doing things" without us realizing it when she's around other dogs. The way they communicate is so different from us and he gives a lot of perspective on that.
Loved the South Park episode

OH MY GOSH! Mly husband thinks I have the hots for Cesar Millan because I TiVo every episode of his show. It's addictive! DH likes it too, though. He always wants to see how Cesar handles the big dogs and any biters!! I love it when they show the Pschology(sp.?) Center! That is AMAZING to me...40 dogs and NO fights. Did anyone see the episode where he sat a bag of doggie treats down on the graound and none of the dogs touched it?!? I almost fell off the couch!
We have a German Shepard and did have a Rottie, too. Sadly, the Rottie passed away last fall about 5 days after we returned from our Disney World trip.(I was stricken with guilt for several months that I wasn't home to notice her illness.) But, both of our "aggressive" breed dogs have always been so laid back. We never have had any problems from them. We did the submission, on the back, thing to the Rottie when she was a pup AND routinely took away her food and/or treats to show her we were in control of her. And it really worked. I have never been worried about my DD(3) being in yard with the dogs.
I am so glad that Cesar has a platform to show the world how wonderful Rotties and other "aggressive" breeds can be great family dogs.(i.e. Daddy and Poppy) It's all about the OWNER's ISSUES!
Anyway, so glad to know that others are addicted as well!!!!!

Its a great show! I have a well behaved dog but I have learned so much.

Ohh I LOVE the show, and Cesar is GREAT.

I've read the book and it took me back in time, when I was a little girl and my grandpa did the same thing, worked en el Rancho with 10 + dogs and it was just like Cesar's story, my grandpa died at age 99 and he taught me to love the horses, dogs, cows, all animals and of course nature.
I was 10 YO when he died and I remember the dogs crying under the coffin :(

So proud of Cesar, and I think he just have a gift with Dogs. LOL! The ssstt is a familiar sound, my Mom used to do that all the time, and I do it to the kids and my Dogs too :rotfl: I guess is a Mexican thing. Sssttt.

The southpark episode was hilarious :lmao:

The problem with aggressive breeds like Rotties and Pits is that they are very dominant. The owner must establish Alphaship immediately and firmly. They need lots of socializing with other dogs and people too. All too often, they are owned by people who want them as guards dogs and encourage them to be aggressive. Then they can't figure out why their dog attacks another dog or person.

What is this south park episode everyone is talking about? An actual South Park episode or something from The Dog Whisperer?

It is an actual SouthPark episode featuring Cesar. Basically Cartman (the rude kid) is trained to behave by Cesar.:lmao:

The beginning features Nanny 911 & Supernanny which is on the disgusting side (might want to skip it if you are not a regular watcher of SP), but the Cesar part is all good. Very tastefully done and FUNNY.

You know, I've been thinking about this alot..."unsavory" types get dogs with aggressive natures because of the "fear factor". The problem (and I totally agree with you Shugardrawers) is that it is VERY easy (too easy) to "train" a mean dog. All it takes is ignorance and laziness and indifference.

It takes a lot hard work, love, attentiveness to make a well behaved pet.

I can see that. I have an insecure dog, "Butters"...:rotfl: Now we do expose him to everything, he is 1 year now.

Let's put it this way...you could have a raw steak in the trashcan and he would NOT go get it for fear of the trashcan.

"Mean" can be corrected fast! Insecurity spans over everything.

Big Fan! He will be coming to Columbus July 22 and I will be taking tickets for it! I get to see the show for free. One of our clients is part of Rott. Rescue of Ohio. They are bringing him here. Can't wait to see him. We are suppose to get our photo taken with him, too. I guess it will be a group shot, not individual. So, if it happens, will post a photo.

Can someone provide a channel and time (EST)? I'd like to see this show.
