We just adopted a new dog this weekend from the animal shelter. :dog2: I was wandering if anyone wanted to share any freebies or samples for a new four legged family member? Also, are there any frequent buyer programs or such I should be aware of? Thanks from me and Princess. :dog: princess:

Petsmart is running a big contest right now where they are giving away gift certificates. Everyone who registers gets a $5 off coupon. I would imagine you could use that to buy a little food at your local Petsmart?

Congratulations on your new pet!
I also live in the Louisville area. Feeder's Supply has a "feeder repeater" card for just about every brand of food they sell. You get a free bag for every 12 you buy. They just stamp a card when you buy the food.

We buy Eagle Pack dog food and they also have a frequent buyer program where you send in the UPC and they send you a coupon for a free bag every 11 bags. I think you can sign up for that on their website. I'm sure other companies have it too.

We are able to use both these programs and we end up with two free bags of dog food about every 3 months but we are feeding great danes so we go through a lot of food. ;)

Hope that helps!

God bless you for rescuing a dog that needs a home! Sadie & Bentley are rescue pups, too. I think a rescue dog knows just how lucky they are to have a loving home.

Congratulations on your new pet! We just rescued a puppy 2 weeks ago and she is just wonderful! Did the shelter give you a packet of stuff? Mine gave me a sample of dog food and a packet that had some coupons in it. Also, on coolsavings.com, they have several coupons for dog stuff- check it out! Again, have fun with your new puppy!

I wish I could find a puppy to rescue. My DS (8) wants a dog of his own. Puppies are very hard to find around here.

We have a dog, almost 2yrs old, that is a purebred & we paid $$$. We love her dearly, but would really like to rescue a pup that really needs a home.

aka-mad4themouse--your "new additions" are precious!

Have you tried petfinder.com? always lots of pups there.....

I second the suggestion of trying petfinder.com. It's how we found Sadie & Bentley. So many animals needing homes!

I also wanted to add this link to the Purina One Challenge. They'll send you a coupon good for a 4 lb. bag of Purina One (puppy, adult or senior).

As a monthly $$ doner to the ASPCA, HSUS and our local shelter I say...

THANK YOU FOR GIVING A DOG IN NEED A HOME!!!!!!

You made such a difference in that dog's life.

:love2:

Don't know if you can do this AND that Purina site, but here's the number to call in for a free bag 1-866-894-BARK

I wrote it down the other day to call for my cats, and haven't tried it yet. But supposedly that gets you free Purina One.

And this site is to sign up for a sample and potential follow up survey about how your pup liked the sample.

PetPlace.com

About the sampling program

The puppy food sample promotion is being offered by Hill's® Science Diet®. There is no cost or obligation to participate in this program. All pet owners with dogs under 1 year of age will qualify for a free 7 oz sample of Hill's® Science Diet® Puppy Small Bites or Large Breed pet food, depending on the size of your puppy. One sample will be offered per household, while supplies last. You will be asked information that ensures that you are eligible and the sample will be mailed directly to your home in about 6 to 8 weeks. A follow-up e-mail survey may be sent to determine if your pet enjoyed the sample.

Yep, have been checking petfinder.com for over 2 weeks.

Good news is I just checked and there is a shelter about 1 hr away that has two puppies. They don't open until wednesday, so I am planning to go look tomorrow. But, I did email them about this little guy...

I can't wait to hear from them!

If you have a Petco in your area take in the adoption papers and they give you a coupon packet. The cat one has a free 8ib bag of food in it, not sure about the dog booklet. There is also a grooming discount and several B1G1 for buy dry food get canned food free and discounts on collars, leashes and bedding. ~Mandy

Oh and find out if your vet offers anything. Our vet gives free full bags(not sure the size) of Hill's Science Diet along with a bunch of coupons.

Well, I missed the boat. :( That cute little guy (Beethoven) already has 5 people trying to adopt him. Most likely, one of those will be approved. Was told they will keep my name, just in case, but it doesn't look good. Puppies go so quickly and are so hard to find in my area.

Keep your chin up. It took a couple of months to adopt our babies. We had our name in for a sibling pair of lab/terrier mix pups (6 months old at the time) but the rescue agency felt that another home was better suited for them. I was heartbroken because I'd already felt like they were MY babies. But if we had gotten those two, then we never would have been blessed with Sadie & Bentley. There's a dog out there for you.

It warms my heart to see someone looking for a shelter dog. I have been involved with my local shelter for about 10 years and it has brought alot of joy to my life - and alot of animals (3 dogs and 3 cats)!

What part of New York State do you live in? I am an hour south of Rochester and would be glad to keep you in mind for a puppy from our shelter...

Good luck and feel free to e-mail me.

Kathy

Thanks...I am keeping my chin and my search up! Will just make sure I check everyday.

That is very sweet of you Kathy. Unfortunately, I live a good 3 hours from the Ra-cha-cha area. I am near Cooperstown & Oneonta. I am willing to drive an hour, so I have several (5) shelters that would be pretty convenient.

Cross your fingers for me, dog lovers, I WILL FIND OUR PUP!

I guess you probably have a reason for wanting a young pup but, just in case...

Maybe you could consider a slightly older dog? I think if this dog will be your son's dog (and his responsibility) you may want to consider a dog that is a little older. They are usually much easier to care for. Faster to housebreak (or maybe even already housebroken!) and hopefully past the "destructo" phase.
Good luck! I'm sure you will find the perfect pet for your son.

We are very happy, especially my son. I brought home our newest baby, Georgie. Isn't he a cutie!
