Do you homeschool your child/ren? I have homeschooled before and am going to start again this fall with my 8 year old son. Just looking for others who are.

Thanks!
Rae

Count our family in that arena! We have home educated since the beginning and I don't see an end in site!

Thanks for your fast reply.
I will PM you!

Rae

Hi Rae,

We also homeschool. DD11 went to regular school until the beginning of 2nd grade. DS8 has been homeschooled from Kindergarten on.

We absolutely love homeschooling and will probably go straight through high school.

I have used Homequest for the one in college - and ABeka for Michael, most recently. But have changed to Seton. What program are you using?

Rae

Rae,
You know me! But thought I'd chime in here for those that don't.

We homeschool our two. Our 9 yr old dd went to school till April of her kdg year. Planned to homeschool her in 1st grade anyway, but removed her mid-year b/c of a serious, substantiated death threat by a troubled classmate. Our ds, 5, has never been to school, even preschool.

We are using the K12 curriculum started by Bill Bennett. I actually am a parent volunteer for the company so can answer any questions anyone might have. It's great...very rigorous content, structure (which I need) and zero, zilch planning time on my part!! Dd learned so much about the Roman Empire in second grade she gave an education to her ski instructor on the chair lift rides up the hill! She was so into it (not dry lessons) that she cried during the lesson about Caesars life!! And she always gets books at the library about Ancient Rome. So I feel good I'm not missing a lot. And I'm thouroughly enjoying RE-learning this stuff myself (or actually learning it for the first time!)

So here we are....homeschoolers and Disney lovers!

p.s. one year ago I'd have told you that Greenland was a continent, but I learned in K12 kindergarten this year that it's not! I can actually now name all 7 continents!! :)

Enough teasers, OhioMinnie! Where's the web address?

BTW, did you get my message yesterday?

We homeschool.
I homeschool my one and only ds 14. We have homeschooled since he was in 5th grade. He is in high school now doing 9/10th grade work.
We are using sonlight this year. I am now in the process of trying to talk him into to starting before our public schools start (aug 13th) so we will not be so far behind after our 8 day trip to the world in Sept.:D Of course, it is going over like a lead balloon.

We go through Laurel Springs for DD. She has a teacher in California that we email her work to and who provides the grades. I was concerned about grading her work myself (she is now in 8th grade) as I wanted her to have an unbiased opinion on what she does. She will also have a transcript from an accredited school when she is done. I come up with DSs plan on my own. He will probably start a formal plan/program when he is at the 7th grade level.

We usually start in early August, although our public schools don't start until late August or early September. That way we get a jump-start on the year and feel comfortable not bringing work with us on our annual Oct. or Dec. WDW trips.

It's www.k12.com :)

Yes, got your message last night. Want to be able to sit down and reply without distractions. Easy enough to whip off a quick post on the DIS while dd does a vocabulary lesson (yes, still plugging away here and there on school) but it's not enough time to give a proper response to a dear friends email. :) I'll write soon....PROMISE! :)

We homeschooled 5th grade, for a lot of reasons I won't go into here. My DD is gifted, but has LD's and struggles in many ways at public school. 6th grade was pretty bad, and I would like to try homeschooling again. However, I do work from home and have difficulty with planning and organizing her work too. She also loves spending time on the internet, and it would be a real struggle to keep her off her websites when she's supposed to be schooling. Michelemouse, can you post a website for Laurel Springs? Ohiominnie, I'm going to check out the program you use too. DD is going back to mid-school in a few weeks, but I want to be ready to pull her if things start going as badly as last year. Diana

We homeschool as DD, 12, as well. We basically build our own curriculum using internet resources and have had a lot of success with it. I really feel with the state our education system is in both financially and safety wise it's the best avenue to take.

Shameless plug for me....

But if anyone is seriously considering ordering K12, let me help you with your order! It'll save you about $50 in shipping by ordering through a "Star." Yes, that's my corny title....I'm a K12 Star!

This will be our first year. DH travels constantly with his work so we are buying an RV, and hitting the road. DS7 is so excited to know he will have his Dad back!

We are unschooling, and if it works out, he won't be heading back to school next fall either! :)

What's "unschooling"?

Sorry Steve, I'm not going there, this isn't a debate, it's a discussion.

I was being serious -- I've never heard of unschooling. I was curious what it was.

I'm serious too, I don't want to get into the same old tired debate, so I'm nipping it in the bud right now.

Read any book by David Albert (or a score of others, but this is the best in my opinion) if you're serious, then I'll talk to you all day if you want! :)

No slams intended whatsoever!

color me confused, but since when is asking a question a slam or starting a debate?

Looks to me like Steve was just curious and wanted to know what unschooling was since he's never heard of it before.
