Guessing most are without power, but wondering how conditions were around you. I didn't hear about the I-10 bridge in Pensacola till a few minutes ago. :(

Let us know you guys are ok & what's going on!

Hi, we're all fine. We're still in the shelter. We'll post more soon. Thanks for your prayers!!!!

I have thinking about them too.

AG, that's good to hear.

Are you talking about the Escambia Bay bridge? What happened?

as they could get some severe weather & possible tornadoes!

Let us know how you are doing Kelli.

We are praying for everyone else who is also in Ivan's path.

Is it this one?

or it could be a long time for reconstruction.

I'm just outside Birmingham. Right now we are among the lucky who still have power. Over 550,000 homes so far do not. They are expecting that figure to top 1,000,000 before it's over. The worst won't be over for 12 more hours or so, and already we have flooding, trees down, reports of tornadoes, and other such lovely things. We are prepared to be without power for a week. We have propane (for a coleman stove), charcoal, and over 40 gallons (!) of water. All out pets are in, and we are just waiting to see what happens.

I have just arrived at work. I'm not scheduled to be here until 4pm, but they said if you were going anywhere you'd better get there by noon, so here I am. (I'm not *working* obviously <g> I'm just here so I can start work at 4:00) The worst is supposed to be here at 2:00, but alreaady roads are closing due to flooding and downed live power lines. I've worked here 16 years and never been stuck at work before. I guess my time has come. I am scheduled to work today and tomorrow; I'm hoping to be able to go home tomorrow night when I get off. Otherwise, I will go home Sat morning. I didn't have much trouble coming in, but when I got here the wind was really picking up. They say we are getting gusts of 60mph! I feel pretty safe here at work, and we will not have to worry about flooding where our house is, and so far we don't have trees down (although our next-door neighbor has 2 down already) we worry about ours falling, but all we can do is wait. It's very frustrating.

Mobile has done better than expected. They still have major damage, but not the severe flooding everyone feared. The way Ivan came ashore, they said water was actually sucked out of the bay. As for Gulf Shores, that's where the eye came ashore. They had reporters out there this morning showing us the damage. They could not get further than the WaterWorld park. The ocean comes up to there!! It's almost a mile inland! Early reports say the FloraBama is gone and the outlets in Foley are heavily damaged. They cannot get to the beach (or where the beach used to be) to see what remains. We have friends and who live there and freinds and family who own vacation property there. I hope they are all okay.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Laurie

I'm in the suburbs of B'ham and it's scary here. I've never seen winds like this before. I hope it's over soon.

We're getting reports that entire roads are gone in Gulf Shores! I also heard that the Florabama is gone. We're just now hearing reports out of Gulf Shores. No reports out of Orange Beach yet.

I just couldn't believe that EVERY house on Ono Island was demolished! Gee, you'd think with that kind of money those houses would've made it.

Hi,

We are in Meridian Mississippi. South Eastern mississippi to be exact. We had 75 mph winds with higher gusts. Been without power since wednesday nigtht. They just restore dpower to our street. Tons uprooted trees and houses split in half. We had lots rain and tornadoe warnings. We came out of it safe though. No serious house damage. Today the long clean up process begun. Wish everyone luck, espcially those down on the ocean.

We weathered through just fine! Either it just didn't get as bad as I thought it would or I've been through worse! I was expecting high winds (50+ mph) for 5 or more hours straight and we mainly had wind gusts and we live on top of a mtn. Didn't even lose power or satellite :D
We have a family condo in Orange bch and my inlaws have a condo there a few buildings down. It appears as though our units made it through o.k. My in-laws heard from the president of their association and were told their building is in good shape. I saw a glimpse of the "family" condo and it appeared ok; the walls and balconies were still there and I think the roof was still on. Couldn't see the other side of the building but what I saw looked good. Now the only problem is the road is washed out in that section so who knows when we can go down and see what is going on. I think we can get to the in-law unit and then walk the block or two to the other unit.
Now need P and PD for my husbands grandmother. She is elderly and is in her summer home in the Georgia mtns and they are literally stuck in there. The roads are washed out and houses are sliding off the mountains. Her house will be ok but they have no power and no way to get out now; her friend was evacuated into her place at midnight last night because a home was sliding down the mtn into the friends home. That is very scary!!!

I'm glad to hear that not all of Ono Island was destroyed, but that definitely wasn't reported on the news yesterday! Of course with all of the damage it may have looked like all!
I just can't imagine staying behind though. Pets or no pets, I'd be getting out. ewww.
I don't remember how long it took to rebuild after Frederick, but I'm sure as soon as the roads are back to normal, the rebuilding will zoom along. The roads will be the main issue. Glad I'm not an engineer!
