My husband and I both are starting bright and early tomorrow morning. I've read the book 3 times and we spent a good part of Saturday at the grocery store buying all the stuff we need for Phase I.

We are really excited and very motivated. We both have lots of weight to lose and this seems like a sensible way for us to do it. My husband's sister lost 70 pounds on Atkins and although we were initially drawn to Atkins, we think SB is for us. I was hoping to get some support and/or suggestions from other South Beachers out there.

I am looking forward to checking in on this board each day to give and get encouragement! Thanks in advance everyone!

I've lost 21 pounds on SBD. I started Aug. 25. My DH is also doing SB, and I think that makes it so much easier. We were followed his meal plans very closely the first two weeks. I lost 9 pounds during phase 1. Since then, I make my own meal plans sometimes throwing in his recipes. I have actually liked many of them! I have had meals where I am off plan, but I have always been able to get right back on track the next day. I really feel so much better and would like to lose 19 more. I still haven't gotten the exercise in although my husband goes to the gym three times a week during his lunch hour. We have lost the same, but I would be willing to bet, he has lost more but gained muscle!

We still like to eat out, but we haven't eaten at a fast food restaurant! We say no to the potato and ask for extra vegetable. If there is a Ruby Tuesday near you, they have a good Low carb menu, but I have even been able to go low carb at an Italian restaurant. Good luck!

Welcome Lisa,

I wish you and your husband much luck on the SBD. You sound like you are ready. I think that is the biggest part of changing is that you are truly ready.

I've been following the SBD since August 21, 2003. I have lost a total of 19lbs so far. I have been off a few times; my oldest son's birthday, my birthday and the night before the half-marathon. Otherwise I have pretty much followed the plan. There have been times when I snacked too much, however, it was always with foods to enjoy on the plan. I'm getting better with the snacking which is more out of habit than hunger.

I have told others about the plan and they have also been pleased with SBD.

There are other W.I.S.H.ers on the plan and I'm sure some of them with post and let you know how they feel about it.

Like I said before in another post, I'm looking forward to posting on August 21, 2004 that I have been on the plan for a whole year.

It is great that your husband will be doing this with you.::yes::.

Good Luck!

Both DH & I are following SB. He's lost 40 lbs. and I've lost about 15 lbs. (I lost 50 lbs. pre-SB) He is currently about 175 & I'm 160. But the really good news is that DH's chlorestrol numbers have greatly improved. We also started an exercise routine which includes the FIRM, CRUNCH tapes, the treadmill & most recently, Walk Away the Pounds. We both feel good & are currently trying to decide where we want to go with this new LOE. We still miss pasta, pizza & chocolate. DH still misses non whole grain bread & baked goods. But we are happy with our new healthy lifestyles and realize that we miss these items emotionally, rather than physically. We have not really introduced small amounts of these LIMITED items because we are sort-of all or nothing folks. We have become the official SB consultants for our office. Since we no longer need our book, we lend our copy to co-workers to preview it, before they buy their own volume. SB has worked well for us!

Thanks for the responses I've received! It helps to know there are other DISers on South Beach. I want to start each morning with 30 minutes on the stationary bike and get through Phase I with no cheats. My initial goal is to lose 10% of my body weight which is about 28 pounds.

I appreciate the candid comments about actually making this program a way of life. Right now we're just focused on getting the weight off and hopefully by the time we reach maintenance stage we'll have a really good handle on this whole carb thing and be able to gradually add stuff back to our diet. I do anticipate missing things like pizza, ice cream, cookies and bread but eating all that stuff is what got me to this weight in the first place! Thanks again for the encouraging comments. Headed off to an early lunch to enjoy my tuna stuffed tomato.

Btw, string cheese is really yummy!!! I'm going to try to focus on the foods that I know I can have and enjoy and not the foods I can't have right now. Have a good day all.

DS and I have been following SB for several weeks now. I was doing Atkins, & I like this better. I enjoy having a piece of real bread - I buy California Black bread from Costco which is a whole grain bread. I'm going to make sure that I don't over-do the carbs during the next few weeks. Eating too many nuts and not drinking enough water are the down-falls for me!

Prevention.com has a great website for South Beach.
