Dh would really like to go and I know my boys would enjoy it, but for 5 of us, it gets kind of expensive

Try contacting your local Congressman's office. They are allotted a number of tickets for KSC for their constituents and you may be able to receive free tickets!:)

I found more info on the Cruise boards:

I thought this might be worth posting. We were told to ask our congressman about free tickets to Kennedy Space Center. I emailed his office, they asked us how many adults/kids and what date. I received confirmation that our free tickets are at will-call for the date we will be there.

Our tickets include:

> admission to the grounds, including all exhibits and shows
> bus tour, including observation gantry, international space station center, and apollo saturn V center
> opportunity to see both IMAX movies (I'm not sure what "opportunity" means)
> visit to the astronaut hall of fame
> tickets valid for two days of admission

That's great for US residents, but does anyone know of any coupons/discounts for non-US residents?

We've gone a few times over the last few years. DH is a astronut (pun intended).

IMAX movies only run at certain times. They mean, "opportunity to see them, if you get there and get your rear into a seat on time". :)

Check the movie times as soon as you get there.

We once got discounted tix through AAA. Maybe CAA has them too.

Also check out the Kennedy website and sign up for emails. A year or two ago they had a special on annual passes. We timed the purchase/pick-up date so that we got three visits (plus free parking, discounted souvenirs & food) out of a one year pass.

Hit it the first time on a cruise disembarkation day. Second time was Christmas Holidays. Third time was another cruise disembarkation day (last day the past was still valid).

GL :thumbsup2

There is also a free discount card you can sign up for, the name escapes me at the moment--Florida Fun Card or similar.

Last year they had $5/off each ticket for KSC.

If you go the route of contacting your representative, make sure you are explicit in your requests. All of them know of the perks for visiting DC, but very few are aware of the KSC perks. It took several go-arounds for me to explain to the intern that we were interested in tickets for Kennedy Space Center in Florida and NOT Kennedy Performing Arts Center in DC :rotfl2:

Definitely take the time to contact your congressperson. Our family was able to take advantage of 4 free tickets last December. They cannot take 'reservations' for it more than 6 months in advance. Our congressman's office told me to email my request EXACTLY 6 months in advance so we would have the best chance of getting tix, and it worked out just fine.

I contacted my congressman late last week, on Monday, one of his office people called me to get our travel dates, etc, then on Tuesday, government shut-down! I don't think my chances are very good!

I have never been to the Kennedy Space Center. Is there enough there to keep a 7 y/o girl occupied? Is it an all day trip, or something that would only take a few hours to see?

Just wanted to post a quick update. We contacted our local congresswoman (Carol Shea-Porter from NH) and there was a little delay because of the government shutdown, but her office was able to reserve 4 tickets for us. Itinkso, thank you so much for the idea, you saved us $200!

Wow! I'm so glad it worked out for you. We went years ago, in the mid-90's, and thought it was impressive then...have a wonderful vacation!

I don't mean to impose on the OP thread, but to those that have driven there from Disney......did you have to cross any long or high bridges? I really want to go on our next trip but me and bridges don't mix.

You do go over the waterway in the Port area but it isn't long nor very high.

It really is nothing compared to the Bay Bridge or Golden Gate Bridge in CA.

I think it depends on the state(?)

I wrote our congressman before the 6 months ( almost 8) to verify the info.
they said no problem, and within a couple weeks they said I had tickets & would send me the info closer to the trip. (which they did, an email with my confirmation stuff)

but for some reason the day we went, someone messed up our reservation, even though our paper SAID the date we were there, their computer system said we were supposed to be there a week before and it was expired. wasted 1/2 hour getting it fixed.

DO NOT miss the hubble IMAX, it is just jaw dropping........

Thanks for the info. It did give me something to look up. I still don't think I can do it. It looks like a small road in the middle of an ocean...I know that it's not but that's what it looks like. I couldn't take it.

Not a bridge per se, but you do need to cross a really long causeway...
