Look at TigerDirect.com. We bought a TV from them a couple weeks ago and got what I thought was a really good deal. I researched LCD tv's for weeks and ended up picking a Samsung model with great reviews. Bought one from them for $1149, free shipping, FREE blu-ray player, 12 mo. no interest financing and purchased thru BING and got an additional 8% cashback.
Our local Best Buy had the same tv for the same price but we would have had to pay tax and gotten no extras.

I am researching tv's right now and am going to wait until I get the right deal...

Things to consider LCD vs. Plasma - Plasma is known for having the image burn into it but that seems to be fixed in most tvs now. The other issue is glare. LCDs have a much lower level of glare.

1080 vs. 720 - we decided on the 1080 b/c we want above 40 inches.

60 hz vs. 120 hz. This is the speed at which the screen refreshes and if you plan to use it for any gaming then you should definately get 120.

All of these factors will affect the price. I have been told it is best to wait until after the Superbowl as they go on big sales then

Don't forget LED TVs now.

If you are Costco member, go to their warehouse and check a few out - write down model numbers, etc and research at home. They extend the 1-year warranty to 2-year for TVs bought from them.

I did forget about LEDs b/c they are way more than I want to spend right now! You can easily see the superior picture quality but we just don't watch enough tv to justify the added cost for LED!

Forgive my ignorance but is led in tvs the same as in lights? Uses less energy?

Burn-in on Plasmas hasn't been a problem for years. Our Plasma is 3 years old and the problem had pretty much phased out 2 years before we bought our TV. Plasma's do give better picture quality, but they are heavy and cumbersome to move.

I also read that TV's aren't necessarily cheaper before or after the superbowl (based on past comparisons). The prices on TV's drop as newer models come out.

I said that the issue has been fixed in most models...but every tv sales guy I talk to has warned me about it and told me to make sure before I purchase plasma...just passing on what they tell you in the store.

They are also the ones telling me when tv prices drop. They generally mark the Superbowl as when prices start to lower b/c most manufacturers roll out their new models in March. It might not have anything to do with the SuperBowl itself but that is what the guys in the store use to mark the time when prices traditionally fall.

... when I was in the market for a new LCD TV ... I noticed they would have sales around a Holiday (3 day weekend) ... I tracked this for several months (seriously) and when the price hit my target amount I bought one ... just so happen to buy a 2008 model in April 2009 (but I was aware of that)... I have read the newer TV's are improving ... cause there are still some kinks to work out ... in my case *motion blur* ... I did my Homework and got a good deal ... but as in most electronics next years model will be better ... and so on ... YMMV

Check out dealsofamerica.com. There are a ton of TV deals out there. When you find the first TV listed, there will be a link that says All LCD TV deals so you can see all of them.

Check out cnet.com for reviews on the television.

We have a 52 inch Samsung and are extremely happy. The picture quality is fantastic. We had the AT&T guys here the other day installing U-verse and they kept commenting on how great our picture was.

I just got a 42" Panasonic 720 plasma at Best Buy today for $525 (then minus my $25 rewards zone certificate!). HH Gregg has the same TV for $525 as well. Good deal on it!!!!!

sixth avenue electronics...........cheap and free shipping.

Keep in mind that between now and the Super Bowl you'll see lots of tvs go on sale. Super bowl is late this coming year -- Feb 7th.

You might also check your local walmart... ours still has some TV's left from the black friday door buster sales.

We got a 50" plasma (samsung) for $588 the week before Christmas (it was a left over door buster as well)
