Hey gang. Thinking of purchasing this camera with a 100mm 2.8 lens for taking closeups of fish (little fish, mostly) in my aquarium. It would mostly be used for this as I have a Canon p & s (canon SD700IS) that I travel with. Any feedback on this ? Thanx. :thumbsup2 I mean 40D, thanx for pointing that out!

Are you sure that you mean Canon D40??? That is a very old model and I do not know if you could even find one. Did you possibly mean 40D? or Nikon D40?

You want to purchase about 2K worth of gear to take pictures of your fish, and carry a p&s when you travel???

Yep. I have a Canon SD700IS that takes great pictures. And it fits in my pocket !! Thanx.

Does their 100mm lens have image stabilization? For photos like that, IS may be helpful, and that means going with a DSLR that has in-body stabilization that works with every lens, including 100mm macros.

(I just checked, and as I thought, no IS on the Canon 100mm macro.)

For macro work, you ideally want to use a tripod, which would mean that you'd turn off IS if you had it anyway, but if you're trying to shoot fish, you probably will have to handhold it.

Image stabilization wont help too much with moving fish. Your gonna want to get a fast prime lens, maybe like the 50mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4. That combined with a high ISO will help catch your fish without blur. I do have the 100mm 2.8 macro and love it, but I have never used it for fish pictures.
