I have 2 back to back baby showers for my cousins next month. My mom and I went in on a car seat together but we are also planning on getting some baby clothes, etc as little things. I always try to be creative but for some reason can't think of anything. Any one have any neat ideas of little extra gifts that the soon to be mommy might love?

How about some bath stuff for mommy and baby. I think Bath & Body Works big sale is still going on. They have stuff for both. I know escaping into a hot shower was a wonderful indulgence when my DD was a baby.

Do you live near them? If so, you could make up coupons that she could give to you so that you can clean her house, prepare a meal, and watch her child while she has a night out. You could get a catering service to bring a few meals to her once her child arrives. Or let her know that once the baby arrives, a special gift will be given to them. And, you can give them a basket full of fresh fruits, bagels, muffins, jams,...

You could buy a hamper, some clothes pins, and a clothes line, and you could hang the baby clothes on the line, then "pile" them neatly in the hamper.

Then at the shower, when it's time to open gifts, two people can hold each end of the clothes line and everyone can "oh" and "ah" over the cute clothes. (There's lots of "oohing" and "ahhing" at baby showers! :teeth: )

Classic board books, like Goodnight Moon, or Brown Bear Brown Bear.

How about a "baby diaper cake" those are soooo cute- and VERY creative!

I've given a box filled with little baby items and clothes to friends in the past at their showers. They key is in the "presentation"! :sunny: I would get a clothesline or small rope and attach it to the top of a sturdy cardboard box. Inside the box would be the line of rope and I would attach the baby clothes, bibs, blankets, towels, pacifiers, etc. with clothespins to the rope. When the mom to be would lift off the top of the box there would be an endless line of baby items attached to the rope. It is hard to describe here, but it has always been a hit. It didn't cost too much either as I would go to the carters outlet or some other baby outlet and get the items on sale.

Enjoy! :wizard:

I usually fill a wicker basket with small essentials--baby wash, wash clothes, baby q-tips, diaper cream, nail clippers, brush/combs, baby motrin. Basically all things that they will use eventually and they might not realize they need right away. That has become my gift everytime I go to a shower!!

I third the diaper cake. You can buy them for a reasonable price on e-bay If you're feeling really creative, you can do a search on how to make one yourself.

Another idea - a gift certificate for a pregnancy massage or a manicure/pedicure so mom can have some pampering.

Good luck!

My MIL made me an adorable baby diaper cake. Couldn't figure out why all of those diapers leaked when I used them and asked MIL what was up with the diapers? She said maybe she shouldn't have used straight pins to hold the diapers together. :rotfl2:

I like theme gifts -- a diaper bag, package of diapers, pkg. of wipes, A&D ointment, changing pad...a baby tub, baby soap, baby towel and washcloths...

Note to self..... don't use pins to secure diapers for diaper cake! Thanks for the heads up! :)
