Hi- just curious about how the role works?
Do you get assigned to one location for the duration of your program- or do you move around to different resorts/water parks?
In the winter when water park/pool hours are shorter- what other roles have you been assigned to work?
Do you get enough hours?

My son will be starting Fall 2010- and mom is curious. ;)

One of my roommates was a lifeguard...her location was listed as "Sassagoula" (I guess meaning the river that connects DTD to resorts) and she rotated between Port Orleans French Quarter, Port Orleans Riverside, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs. I wasn't a lifeguard, but I worked at All Star Resorts and I know the lifeguards there would work between all 3 All Stars

I was a lifeguard at Blizzard Beach for Fall Advantage 2004 - You will go thru the testing in your first week and in an ideal situation, everyone will be certified as a deep water guard, but if you have problems during the testing/training you can also be certified as a shallow water guard (I don't know the exact details of what you can screw up & still be allowed to do shallow) If you're a shallow water guard, you have to be assigned to a water park (BB or TL) If you're a deep water guard, you can be assigned to a water park or a resort. At resorts you have a chance of being put on the docks doing boat stuff if they're a resort that is on a lake or be assigned to the pools. I have also heard of resort guards being put into roles in the childcare/kid camp stuff... During the winter one of the water parks gets shut down for refurb, at that time the guards all get split up and they fill in open positions EVERYWHERE. When I was there in '04 it was a Blizzard Beach refurb year, some people got sent to Typhoon Lagoon to keep guarding, some people we sent to resorts to guard, some were put in the parks in quick service food & bev or as custodial and a whole lot of us were sent to do merchantainment at Downtown Disney. I was sent to World of Disney at DTD with about 15 other people. Don't worry about getting enough hours, you'll ALWAYS get enough hours!
