Well think about it ....
Example.. you buy 5-10 yogurts. When the yogurts are scanned by the cashier, the UPC is stored in the memory of the register via the software. Notice on the receipts that you receive each UPC is on it, either via a item number or the actual UPC is printed out near the item description
When they scan the coupon, it searches in the registers "memory" if you actually purchased this item.
Sometimes, if it doesn't match, it will say item mismatch, and it will instruct the cashier not to accept the coupon.
Sometimes with "BIG" manufacturers, you have problems., say with a "generic" Kraft coupon. Maybe Take $1 off any 3 Kraft items... how many Kraft items are they? Hundreds... they don't have all Kraft UPC's tied in with that coupon., so you need to show them the box of macaroni, the salad dressing, and the Velveeta.
Store here won't allow double dipping either.. Say Life cereal is on sale B1G1. I have a regular $1.00 off 2 life cereal coupon, AND a .75 cent off Cinnamon life... I can NOT use both! It says "More than allowed percentage off". I can only get something for "free" not for "Negative costs", which is what would happen if I used both coupons.
I have to use one or the other, even though they are two different numbers/products. (two different products)
Since 75 cents are true doubles, I use the 75 cent.
