any comments on Thousand Oaks in the Davenport area??

Hi...Thousand Oaks is a newer developement that is quite a ways south of Disney off Old Lake Wilson Road. It is not a hard drive to Disney from there either up Old Lake Wilson to 192 and east to Disney or head north on Old Lake Wilson as far as the stop light at Osceola Polk County Road (by a CVC Pharmacy), turn left and backtrack a little and just before you enter Champions Gate turn onto I-4 East (Orlando) to the Disney entrance.

For grocery shopping you will definately want to go into Champion's Gate to the Publix there. It is the closest and best prices.

Thousand Oaks is really out in the middle of nowhere as Disney Housing develoments go...Nice homes, just out in the country. You should be able to get a very good price because you are 10 minutes farther out than a lot of the other homes...
If the home has all you want and the price is right, go for it. For absolute sure, you will need a car for everything...nothing will be in walking distance...but most rental homes are not walking distance to shops or restaurants...

Good Luck...Ted

Thanks for the information. Been going to WDW since 1972 and have never been without a car so things should work out fine.:)

Great details, thanks! How long does it take to get to Disney from Thousand Oaks? (You say 10 minutes farther, but I don't know from what, lol)

Looks like you're in Indian Ridge (another I was looking at).....how long from there? I will have a car, and don't mind a little drive, but I don't want to be 30+ minutes away....for that I'll stay for free with MIL an hour away, lol.

I rented a villa in June 07 that was located in Davenport and I thought the area was great. It is very easy to get to WDW via the highways which were very close and easy to access. I think if you rent a villa a little further away from Disney, you seem to get more bang for your buck. I have re-rented the same villa for June 08. I looked at several different options, but I wanted a villa that seemed to be like a house other than decorated like a hotel room. Some homes are just very bare with just the essentials and nothing in particular making them stand out. There a several rentals on vrbo.com in the Davenport area that are very nice. The one I have rented is #40175 if you want to take a look. It is exactly as pictured and the owner is very easy to work with which I have done via email and wire transfer. I really don't think you would be disappointed with renting a place in Davenport at all. You just need to make sure that you will have a rental car (which you can usually get for a really good price with the help of Mousesavers and the rental codes and coupons). If you have any questions you can PM me if you would like!

Hi, I would figure 22-23 minutes right to the parking lots in Disney from TOaks and about 12-15 from Indian Ridge...Indian Ridge is about 3-3 1/2 miles from Disney as crow flies and I would guess TOaks is about 6-7...Ted

I live behind Champions Gate and it is 12 miles to the parks. It is quick and easy with no problems.

Yes I use I-4. This side of I-4 is not bad traffic wise. I can be to the parks in no time. If I am going to AK I go the back way by hitting 192.
