Any Children Abducted at Disneyworld?

The problem I always have with the legend is this. If a child is being drugged, then presumably the child is being carried. Just how can you see the feet of each child being carried out of the park? In a crowd, people are so close together it would be impossible.

The logic to the rumor is that it must happen since Disney is a big draw for children. Disney then hushes it up because it is so powerful. So there is no proof and no way for Disney to refute it ever happened.

I worry more about my daughters biking around my neighborhood than I do at Disney.

I'm like you with the shoe thing. How could you possibly identify someone by their shoes unless they walked by you single file.

As for Disney hushing things up, I just don't buy it. Disney can quiet down some things but I have heard plenty of bad things that happened at Disney. Really bad things. Unless the parents were total scumbags who would take a payoff to keep it quiet there is no way the press could ignore it. That is the press's job to report the news. And the first one to report a kidnapping at WDW would have ratings out the wazoo. No way would they pass up a story like that.

Well excuse me... Here I thought the subject of this thread was child abductions. How stupid of me to think that "incidents happen every day" would be on subject instead of talking about shoplifting, broken bones etc.

There in not one documented piece of evidence (court records, police reports etc) that shows that this has ever happened in WDW.

I think you are on the defense for disney and i think you like to take pieces of quotes to make other people look like they are not as smart..
1. i did not go off topic until i was accused of being naive
2. i brought up the fact of "incidents" because it was posted that everything that happens at disney is public knowledge
3. i never siad that the hair was dyed, and i was quoting a mother from my school who never mentioned anything about hair dye, just clothes, and i also said if she was lying shame on her, and she shouldnt cry wolf
4. if you are going to quote me, please recognize that i agree that if it were to happen it would be national news.
have a nice day

Abductions with the haircut/color are an urban myth, folks. If you would like to debate the topic further, please find it on Community Board.

One more note on the "drugging" part. Benadryl does not make all kids sleepy. In fact in quite a few people, (like my DS) it actually has the opposite reaction & makes people INCREDIBLY hyper. There is no way of knowing who this reaction will happen to.

And on the Disney hushing up attempted kidnappings, that is just silly. I mean really. Do you honestly think Disney is just going to let attempted kidnappers just walk out the gates.

Disney: "Um excuse me sir but that is not your child."

Kidnapper: "Oh sorry, I was just trying to kidnap them. But since you caught me, here is the kid. No harm no foul."

Disney: "Yeah sure! See you next week Bob. Just remember to change the kid's shoes next time. We have the really special cameras that can pick out shoes in a crowds of hundreds."

And out the gate the go???

No one is going to call the cops? The parents aren't going to want someone arrested?

And does anyone REALLY think the media would not find out about an attempted kidnapping in DISNEY WORLD?!?!? Really, not ONE hungry journalist is going to find this story?!?!?!

Calling it an "incedent" does not make it less of a crime. Attempted kidnapping is attempted kidnapping. SOMEONE is going to jail for it.

I'm not talking about alien abductions.

I know this is a silly question, but I'm trying to ease my SIL's mind.

She said that she heard a story that there was a child/children abducted at WDW. I told her that I've never heard this before and I would ask the members of the DIS. I informed her that Disney likes to keep things hush hush, but an abduction would require the notification of the police.

So, does anyone know if a child/children have been abducted at WDW?

I wish people would stop rumors like this. There has NEVER ever been a child that has been stolen from WDW. The security has stopped people from yelling, hitting, spanking, and other obnoxious things parents sometimes do, but to this date there has not been a stranger that has abducted a child from WDW.

The majorityof people that come here are coming here with their children and are focused on having a memorable vacation and hopefully not spending a fortune doing it. If anything, WDW brings out the better in people. You see grownups wearing Goofy hats that they would never be caught dead in at home. :lmao:

Occasionally there will be a "misplaced" child-even that is called a "missing parent" and there is a system in place for if that happens.
Tell your SIL to not worry and have a good trip. (There is more security than you will ever know here)

a "brownie" mother swears up and down that she was there when the snopes rumored little girl was abducted. You know the whole urban legen that her hair was cut, dyed and she was dressed like a boy.
I finally gave up arguing with the mom. There was not way she was going to believe that it didn't happen.
You know the funny thing is when ever you hear this story, people know how the kidnappers got the girl out of the park, but not if the girl was found (either alive or dead).

Sorry that she is so naive to believe such garbage. But it NEVER happened. Although Disney does try to keep negative stories out of the news. An abduction that ever happened at the world would be immediately released to the media in an effort to find the child.
In addition, the Orange County Sherriffs department would be swarming all over the entire 47 square miles like white on rice within seconds.

I do not wantg to be flamed for this but here it goes. I own a dancing school and we often discuss disney world in the waiting room, since everyone knows i am obsessed an love to talk about it... anyways i do have a mom who was in disney with her family and her sisters family, they were in the MK and they both thought the other had the 2 year old, they frantically beeped each other on their 2 ways and no one had her, they did not know exactly how long she was missing but they knew it had to be about 10 minutes, the gates to the MK were NOT locked down, but they were taken to a security room inside the park and they were all told to look a the screens, (cameras all over the park) they said to look for her shoes... the dad spotted her with a man and a woman, heading for the gates (exit) they called security, they were stopped, the parents got their daughter back, new clothes on, baseball hat, and she had been given a shot to make her sleepy. This mom had no reason to make this story up, she was crying and said it was the worst day of her families life, she said that the disney security was excellent, but the first defense needs to come from the parents, just because it is "the happiest place on earth" doesn't mean that preditors will stay away, they are everywhere, and disney is basically a candy store for them, we lost our 6yo in epcot for 25 minutes and i thought i was going to die, if only we could sew their clothes to ours there. it only takes 1 second for our kids to wander off or dissapear, it takes a lot longer to find them, I love Disney, but dont be fooled into a false sense of security. sorry this is so long! :grouphug:

Do you happen to know the date that this incident supposedly happened???

I am not sure if this really applies or not, but I will post it anyway.

In 1966 my Mom took me to Disneyland with some of her friends. She was pushing me around in a stroller and stopped to buy some cotton candy or ice cream. When she turned around the stroller (with me in it) was not there. She glanced around and saw a man pushing the stoller through the park and she started to scream "someone has stole my baby, someone has stole my baby!" and he then left the stoller (with me in it) and took off running through the park. The guy was never caught.

My Mom still gets worked up everytime she tells the story.

I am not sure if kids get stolen at the parks or not and 1966 was such a long time ago. All that I can say is please keep a close watch over your DKids.

Enjoy the parks and the kids as they are only small for a little while.

My sister lives in Florida, she's not an overly cautious mother. But she won't even let her 3 high school age boys go to Disney World by themselves. That tells me something right there. Says she reads things in the paper all the time about things happening at WDW and that the crime rate is fairly high. I don't believe that I have ever heard her mention any child abductions though. But in reality it wouldn't surprise me. Pedophiles go where kids are - schools, churches, libraries, community centers, parks, etc... So it would not come as a surprise that they would want to be at WDW and be looking for children to abduct.

Good Grief!!! And what paper would this be? I get the Orlando Sentinel EVERY day of the week and read it faithfully each morning. The crime rate is no higher here than it is anywhere else.
There are obviously other reasons your sister doesnt let her high schoolers go to WDW alone.

When it comes to people making cracks about Disney Operations I get just a little testy. The systems that are in place to prevent everything from illegal parking to shoplifting are unsurpassed. This includes child abductions and even rowdy kids.

Late 80's Early 90's when I lived in Phoenix, a neighbor to a friend took family to DL. Their then late pre-school/early elem daughter was taken potty by dad, went in alone, never came out. Park began checking everyone going out and late that night found her being carried by a man of another race, had had her hair cut like a boys, was now barefoot and had a coat over her, covering most of her sleeping body. All ended well and she had not been abused, etc. I don't remember why the man did it.

Just another version of the Urban Legend we are all talking about.

It is always a 'friend of a friend" or a 'neighbor of a friend" or a "woman I work with, her in-laws cousin"

If WDW was a breeding ground for kidnappers, then why is it, when someone has a story of losing their child for 10, 15, even 30 minutes, the story ALWAYS has a happy ending. Don't you think a kidnapper would snatch up a lost child, before he would take a child right out from under a mother or a father?

My DS got seperated from my DH coming out of Maelstrom. I was in a tea shop over in the UK with MIL, when I just happened to call Dh to confirm our meeting time. that was when he told me he was busy looking for DS (age 4 at the time.) WHAT!!!! He had been missing for about 10 minutes. He told me to go to Space Ship Earth. I went there, and was going stir crazy. I called him back, and he still hadn't found him but was adamant he did not want me coming over to help find him. (he knew I was going to ring his neck). I couldn't stand it anymore, and went to the missing person security desk, right next to Spaceship Earth. I had all I could do not to have a nervous break down. I told the woman my 4yo was lost, and what he was wearing. She CALMLY picked up the phone, told the person on the other end that she had a missing parent, and was looking for a 4yo with the clothing I described. She listened a second, and hung up, and told me he was in the babycare center. I never moved so fast, I hopped on MIL's ECV and I think I broke the speed of sound. A group of THREE different couples had noticed my DS wandering around, and took him to the babycare center. One couple was coming back to inquire about him, when i pulled up. They knew by how frantic i was that I must be mom, and they told me what happened. I was very grateful, and told them so.

Good thing they were not pedophiles, looking for a kid to snatch.

Put it this way--with the Amber Alert system---first off if anyone got out--everyone and their brother would know about it.

Please close this thread. No child has ever been "kidnapped" from Disney.

Kind of sad I was thinking about this thread last night  , but I did think of one thing.

These 'abductors' are so well organized and plan so well in advance that they have hair dye, scissors, towels, clothing, and drugs; they know ahead of time the child they choose will cooperate fully with them when getting their hair cut and dyed, PLUS they know the child will be sedated by Benedryl rather than excited.

All that planning and they don't think to bring a new pair of shoes? :rotfl: They even sell shoes in the park!

The whole scenario is so far-fetched if you actually stop to think about it.

:rotfl: Phillybeth--that is exactly what I was thinking too. How dumb not to just take the kids shoes off! I honestly get a kick out of thinking of someone trying to even give my youngest benadryl let alone cut or dye his hair. People would hear him screaming from miles around! And he comes off to others as pretty mild mannered--he will ride anything, he will stand cheerfully in lines without whining, he is happy just skipping along seeing the sights, but try and give that kid medicine and WATCH OUT!!!

Hmmm...

Okay, I'm not from Florida, and I'm not sure how things work down there, but maybe someone local can either log into the website for the court that covers WDW and see if they can find any cases about abuductions or visit the court and ask. They would be public records, so anyone can ask for them.

If anyone knows someone who claims this happened to them, ask for the docket number (of whatever they are called) for the case and try looking it up for the details. I'd be very interested to hear if this existed.

Something tells me no case on record, as SOMEONE would have found it already. There are enough investigative journalists out there that one of them would have done a story on it!

What I want to know is, with the heightened security at WDW now, how could anyone smuggle all of that into the park to begin with? They check every bag now, so unless someone decided to shove scissors, hair dye, towels, clothing & drugs into multiple pockets of their cargo shorts, I somehow doubt anyone could pull it off. But wouldn't that be a sight to see? :rotfl:
