Looking for a cheap familyplan cell phone deal.
Anyone, know any?
Don't need many minutes, or fancy phones, DW and I currently have some basic usage - but would likely call each other more frequently if we had a family plan.
Looking to have 2 maybe 3 phones on it.

Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance.

I have T-Mobile, though I wouldn't call it cheap. I love it because I always have service no matter where I am, and have never had a roaming charge. We have 4 phones, first two are 70, third and fourth are 10 each with 1000 shared minutes, free nights and weekends. There are other plans to choose from. The reason I am telling you this even though you are looking for a cheap plan is because I live close to RI and I see that is where you are from. So for the service alone you may consider it. I have been with them for about 6 years now and every year we all get to upgrade to a better model usually free but a few times I paid about 20 for a better model.
Good luck with your search.

We have had T-mobile for 4 years and are very happy with them. The cost is reasonable and the customer service has been great! We recently thought about switching to Verizon, but were annoyed with the way they disable features on their phones (not an issue for most people though), and some other little things.

Anyway, we ended up going with T-mobile again.

T-mobile has a special right now, great if you have teenagers on your family plan. For an extra $9.99/month you can add unlimited messaging (text & pics) to all lines on the plan. You can sign up for this special until mid-may but the rate stays the same until you change plans (or longer?).

When my dh is here, we also have a family plan through T-Mobile. We normally share the 600 min plan (I think) and we have two very basic phones. I don't even know how to change the ringer or if it does :confused3 :rotfl: I think we paid just a bit over $45-50 without tax and it included unlimited mobile to mobile in the T-mobile family. Right now with Matt gone again, I have just a single line phone. 1000 mins with mobile to mobile and I pay $50 total. I really have never had any problems with T-Mobile but I understand in some areas the service just isn't very good. Maybe lack of towers. :confused3

Thanks for the feedback...
TMobile seems to be the best around for Family - but I'm still not thrilled about their prices. On their website they offer a $59.95 plan with 700-mins, with 2 free phones (even free Razor Phones after rebates) $9.99 for each additional phone.

How much are all the extra costs (surcharges/taxes/etc)?

700 mins is alot of mins for DW and I, I was hoping to pay less with less mins.

I currently have VerizonWireless (reception is garbage, customer service is non-existent - just like everything verizon does). My plan is $11.99/mo per phone no free mins .45/.55 each min. I got this plan many years ago and its no longer offerred. We have 3 phones and the bill ends up being ~$60/mo. with taxes/surcharges/convienience fees and every little verizon fee they can think of. One of the phones broke - and so I'm shopping plans and companies.

I looked at my bill just for you :teeth: I pay $8.55 with the extra taxes and surcharges but I also live in a state with 9.5% state sales tax.

I don't know if it would be cheaper for you but what about two individual programs with adding the mobile to mobile service. I know that T-mobile also has some kind of pay as you go I think it my sales person said you can do mobile to mobile with it. I don't know how cost effective that would be in the long run.

If you will mainly use it for quick calls or emergencies, have you looked into Virgin Mobile? We use their service for both our kids and it works out really well. The plan we have is .25/minute but it converts to .10 if you use more than 10 minutes a day. You just pay as you go and either buy Top Up cards at your choice of several different retailers or you can do it online. If you watch the sale ads, there's always deals where you can get the phones really cheap. Sometimes you can even find the Top Up cards on sale.

Alltel
  • 3 camera phones 20.00 each
  • 2 phones free minutes after 7 and weekends
  • 2 phones free minutes after 9 and weekends
  • 1000 minutes shared
  • 1 phone is free, only pay for overages
  • voice mail
  • text messaging is extra
  • About $110.00 a month. I think that is too high for the service. I hope to make changes in October when the plan is up.

I have cingular. 2 phones for $59.99 plus taxes. Mobile to Mobile calls are free. I have 500 anytime minutes. Also, I work for Home Depot and get a 22% discount which pretty much takes care of the taxes so my bill for the month is $59. Check with your employer for corporate discounts.

I just signed up with Sprint. Got a family plan on the fair and flexible plan for $69.99, including mobile to mobile.

We have T-mobile and have a family plan with 500 mins (shared) free mobile to mobile and it's 49.99 a month.. with taxes etc it's about $58. We only have the two lines on it, and we NEVER go over the mins.. usually have more than half left over... to bad you can't roll them over.

We have 2 phones with Verizon we pay $62 a month that includes taxes. We get 500 anytime minutes for the month to share. The thing I love most is my family is local long distance but because they carry verizon also it is free. Any calls to other verizon users is free. We have NEVER gone over the minutes even when a group of 18 of us went to Disney and we used our phones ALOT. I will add my DH RARELY uses his phone. It's 10$ each additional line and you can get plans with more minutes.

I checked T-Mobile's website and I didn't see this deal...How'd you get it?

I also have the tmobile plan for 500 minutes a month for $49.99 a month plus $10 per additional line. However the plan is no longer offered for new members. I believe the cheapest is now the $59.99 plan for 700 minutes. We have 4 people on the $50 plan and with taxes is about $80 a month plus we never go over the minutes.

Thanks everyone -
I broke down and went with the TMobile $59.99/700-minute plan + 2 more phones at $9.99 ea. (Yep 500min plan is no longer available). I bought 1 Samsung x495 phone for $50 and got 3-free. Plus my friend got a $50 credit for "referring" me. I may get one more phone as even with the 4 of us we'll never use 700mins. Sis-in-Law can scrap her plan and hop on ours for $9.99.

I also went to the Verizon store in the same plaza to cancel my service, and in traditional fashion, their customer service was useless. I couldn't cancel service in the store - just on the phone. They atleast let me use their phone - but Customer Service put me on hold for like 10 minutes... But I'm finally out... :cool1: and so far, I'm pretty satisfied with TMobile service and phone plan.

Thanks again!

As I said in a previous post I love T-Mobile and I think you will be happy with them also. I love the Samsung 495, we recently got them for free, great deal. The customer service has been wonderful all these years also. Good choice.
Their website is very easy to navigate also, you can find anything you want to know on there once you register.
