Any chance of a downgrade?

Was planning on doing 7 nights at BC standard view room with 40% military discount.

Called to book and BC didn't have anything for all 7 nights. Was offered Yacht Club but it was a Lagoon view as well and about $500 over budget. Ended up booking BC Lagoon view for 5 nights and will transfer elsewhere the last 2 nights.

The website showed standard available so I really wasn't expecting to have to make tough decisions when I called.

I would like to downgrade, but do people often cancel reservations? Or Do I just need to plan to pay extra for a view I don't care about?

Also, I thought I only had to pay $200 down then rest before 45 days. But she had me pay 25% and the rest due at checkin? Is this a new thing or is it bc I'm booking so close to my trip dates?

Did the availability you saw on the website include the Military discount or is that discount one you have to call Disney receive? It may be standard rooms are available for rack rate. If you're able to view BC standard with military discount on the website for your 7 days, I'd book it and cancel the other reservation. If you have the time to keep checking you might be able to get all 7 nights with a discount. I haven't heard about 25% deposit being required..maybe others have info! Have a great trip!

What's available on the website at rack rate doesn't have any bearing on what's available with a discount. Discounts limit the inventory on rooms.

It's absolutely possible someone cancels or changes their plans and you end up with that room. I'd keep calling and checking to see if something opens up. I don't know your dates but I'd check aggressively around the 45 day marker for your dates (when people either pay, change, or cancel) and around the 5 day marker for cancellations on room only reservations. I've seen a lot of discounts not being offered on the standard rooms, or at least very few of them since they are the least expensive room type. It's possible, but if it's not available the day before or day of over the phone you're probably just going to be stuck with what you've booked. Front desk will probably have you calling the booking line to check since they don't really handle the discounts and availability limitations in person.

If you booked a room only reservation they required you to pay 1 nights room stay deposit and the rest will be due at check in. That's normal. The $200 and 45 day out balance is due on packages and you would only have a package if you did a military ticketless room/dining combo.

Thanks for the explanation on the payment. I didn't even notice it was one nights rate, I just did quick not exact math in my head and figured it was around 25%.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to view what rooms are available for military discount. She said there were no standard rooms available at all at BC during that time.

She was probably referring to 'with the discount no standards were available.' Keep checking but it's definitely common.
