Heading to Universal next week!!! Been reading that the crowds are way down due to the economy, heat whatever....we were told that we may be eligible for an upgrade at the Hard Rock based on availability. Thinking that if the crowds are way down we may have a chance. Think its possible?

I was at HRH a week ago and was eligible for an upgrade through All Access, but when I got to the desk I was told they were fully booked and nothing was available.... really though all the rooms are great and it didn't make a difference to me what view I had etc.. the customer service and atmosphere there was awesome and definitely top notch !

We did get an early check in and late checkout though !

we were there a couple weeks ago, very low crowds at park and hotel...asked about the passholder appreciation month and free upgrade that was emailed to me, but they said they didn't know anything about it and there were no upgrades available...anyway i really don't think the view matters much at the universal hotels because it'snot like there is a balcony to sit out on anyway plus the hard rock is a great hotel---have fun:goodvibes

If the hotel has low occupancy, chances are you might be able to swing a free upgrade.

if you are upgraded, the chances of selling the lower priced rooms are easier for HRH or any of the 3 on site hotels.

many people would pay for a standard basic room instead of paying more just for the view or amenities.

by placing you in a higher priced room, the hotel has one more standard room they can then rent out for the night.

We were there in May and the crowd level was so low it was unbelievable. I checked in and asked about the passholder appreciation upgrade and the person was clueless. We paid for a garden view and we got a garden view. No upgrades for us either. OP I hope you don't get your hopes up too high as it might be a bummer if you don't. Good luck!!

We were at PBH last week, asked for upgrade (as Blue level Youfirst member), told none available.

I wonder if you wouldn't have more luck asking to see if any paid upgrades are available?

Although probably not what you're looking for, you might be able to get a bargain upgrade. Worth a shot.

Since occupancy is so low, I am waiting for them to bring back the ENT rates. Remember those? RPR for $99/night? HRH for $125 garden view? Hey, a girl can dream ....

Well now you are just showing your age .... remember when milk was $0.25 a gallon too? :rotfl:

i have no knowledge on that one.

the hotels haven't been around that long.
i can remember in the early 90's where i had to stay off site all the time.

We got a free upgrade from Standard to Pool View last October :thumbsup2
HRH was at around 40% occupancy

I got that $99 Ent rate that year too... I'd love to see those again, for sure!

I also got the Entertainment rate for HRH plus a dirt cheap rate for RPR. At HRH we paid for a pool view and when we got to the room the view was blocked by a palm tree. I complained and they moved us up a floor so we had a perfect view.

If the guy at the front desk plays dumb on the upgrade try going to customer services near the parks instead, they seem to know more about passholder benefits. They can call over and be your advocate.
