I bought 3 APs for my family last August and we were only able to use the tix on one trip, the reason being we are having a baby boy this July. When we bought the tix we didn't expect this to happen!!! Having had 2 previous miscarriages, there's no way I was going to take a chance at taking a trip to WDW during this pregnancy.

I know I am grasping at straws, but does anyone think disney might allow me to trade my APs for some tix I can use later? We only used them for 4 or 5 days I think. Thank you!

No. They will not do anything for something as normal as a pregnancy. You have already used it on one trip to begin with. Having an AP doesn't guarantee you take multiple trips. Also there are plenty of things to do at WDW without having to worry about miscarriage. I've had 9 miscarriages and can tell you that most attractions are harmless. Congratulations by the way!:D

I always say it doesn't hurt to ask -- I really don't know what the policy is, but no matter what, sometimes it just all boils down to getting lucky and asking the right person.

Would your doctor write you some kind of note or something? I just wouldn't guess about it -- I'd ask. I mean, what do you have to lose? A miscarriage is pretty traumatic (been there) and I understand why you want to be extra careful.

Good luck -- and congratulations!

Wether you get anything back or not, the most important thing is that you are doing what you think is best for you and that little one. It will be so worth loosing a few dollars. Think about that when you take DS or DD on thier 1st trip. Congratulations and GOOD LUCK.

Here's another angle to try: do you expect to reschedule before the end of 2003? I would see if they would be willing to extend your passes to when you finally go.

Talk to your doctor and see if he thinks it's too risky to travel to Disney. Either he will say all travel is out, and he could write a letter stating that, or he will ease your fears. My guess is that since you've had the AP's so long, though, even with a doctor's note you'd be out of luck. If they were only a month or 2 old, your case would be stronger. Your passes are almost 9 mos. old, so I can't imagine any medical reason compelling Disney to refund some money. I completely understand your concern since you've had problems in the past, but even if you don't pursue money from Disney, I'd still talk to the doctor. There's no reason to stop normal living if it won't harm your unborn baby.

First of all, congratulations! I had three miscarriages myself before my first was born (conceived and carried with the help of several hormones) and when pregnant with my second child (also with help), we went to DisneyWorld when I was 4-1/2 months pregnant. By that point, I was well past the point where I lost the others (9-10 weeks) and I had had an ultrasound that showed a good viable pregnancy. I know how overly cautious I was because of my history, but with you being due in July, if you're careful (I sat and rested a lot while Daddy played Disney Dad), I think if you went one more time in the next 2-3 weeks you'd probably be okay. Once I hit 7 months, my doctor didn't want me traveling. Also, since we drove down, he gave me strict instructions about how he wanted me to sit to decrease pressure on the vena cava (major artery) and he gave me strict instructions about frequent breaks. Of course, pregnant women take frequent breaks anyway! :) :teeth: If you don't decide to go, just chalk it up to your first expense of many with your new son or daughter! Believe me, mine are 15 and 18 now and talk about high maintenance. . . .

I just want to tell all of you who have had miscarriages that I am sorry about the loss of your babies.

Sharon, take care of yourself and that little one....I am not sure that anything can be done, but hey it never hurts to ask.. they might say yes... :)

Glad to hear you are pregnant... sorry to hear that you can't use your passes! As you can see by my signature, we face the same dilema.
I don't think it would be right to ask Disney for any sort of refund. The rules are the rules. I'm sure there are many people who have good reasons why they can't use their annual passes, but that is all part of the risk we take when we purchase them.
Again... congratulations on your pregnancy!

I think you need to do whatever you feel is best for your family. I am currently pregnant with our first child due November 13th - after over a year of trying and the help of Clomid. We are going the first week in September with my doctor's blessing - unless of course something changes between now and then. I will follow my doctor's guidelines to a T and not take any chances.....this baby is worth more to me than any attraction, etc at WDW. But only you know what you're comfortable with. On your tickets...I agree that you should email Disney and request an extension....all they can do is say no. But if you don't ask they can't even do that.

I think it would actually be unreasonable for you to ask Disney for some sort of special treatment because you're pregnant and choose not to travel.

WDW is not responsible for your pregnancy (I'm assuming .... unless there's a BIG part of the story you're not telling! :p ). Nor did WDW require you to purchase APs on your last trip. You chose to purchase at that level, for whatever reason. And, now, happy circumstances mean that you cannot use them. That's just a loss you take, balanced against the much more significant gain of having a child.

I would, however, still send a letter to Disney. Something like ... "Dear Disney, I've recently become pregnant and cannot travel, and therefore I will not be able to use my recently-purchased APs as often as I expected to this year. I tell you this in order for you to understand why your souvenir and food revenues will be so much lower this year than in previous years. Rest assured, however, that once the baby is born, we will be back, introducing another member of the family to the Disney Magic." Send something fun like that.

You still won't get any money back or any AP extension, but you never know what this kind of approach might prompt Disney to do in the "let's send a little baby gift to this wacky woman" department.

Just a thought ....

Unreasonable to ask?

Wouldn't be right to ask?

You guys are kidding right? Do you know for a fact that Disney would say no - if not, why would you say such a thing?

You might be right - they might say no - but what makes it "not right" to ask?

If a member of my health club is injured, sick, or has a high risk pregnancy and can't work out, they give you a suspension on your contract until you are able.

An airline once gave me a refund because our doctor didn't want our daughter to fly.

If you know for sure that WDW would say no, then tell us about it. If this has happened to you and you actually know what the answer iis, then that would be helpful. Otherwise, we really don't know what kind of exceptions that might be made out of kindness.

And if you want to debate this, they're doing it over on that ever-loving debate board. The OP asked for advice and information - not a debate about right and wrong.

There is a huge difference between working out during a high risk pregnancy and riding on the It's A Small World. Going to WDW is not a high risk activity. Apples to oranges. Sure, anyone can ask for their money back but personally I think it is tacky to say the least.

If your doctor does clear you for travel and calms your fears, don't forget that you can see WDW from a wheelchair or ECV. That's no more strenuous than riding in a car and less strenuous than driving a car. My last 2 pregnancies were high-risk with pre-term labor. I was considered high-risk from the very beginning (before the pre-term contractions began), but I was not banned from travel. Congratulations, and talk to your doctor rather than listen to all of us.

Not to make you mad, but these passes are not purchased recently, and you've had 9 of the 12 months to use them. From 2 experiences (too long to go into) I've had with Disney, the best I'd hope for in your situation would be a phone call of apology that they can't do anything for you. I've received one of those and one such letter. That's why I don't hold out any hope or think it's worth asking. I said to ask just to be polite, but your passes are 3/4 used - close to expiration at this point.

I don't think it would hurt to ask. I have a friend who was having constant problems with her AP being rejected and went to guest services to complain. For her trouble, they extended her entire families passes for 2 or 3 months to cover their next trip (I think they got the passes in October, this happened the following June and they planned to go again in December). She didn't ask for this, she just wanted to get her pass fixed, they offered it. You never know when there will be some "disney magic". Just like when they refunded MVMCP tickets last year because of heavy rain. They were not obiligated to do it but did it out of goodwill.

We're not talking about a ride on it's a small world. We're talking about traveling, not getting enough rest, not being near your doctor etc....

Yeah, I know that you can rest at WDW. I know there are doctors there - but if you have had miscarriages, why would you take the chance?

Anyway, like I said, they are debating this on the debate board. If somebody actually knows the answer to the Ops question, then, heck, I'd like to know as much as anyone - otherwise - it's just your opinion about whether merely asking about an extension is right or wrong. I suggest that the debate board is a better place for that.

one more thing -- tacky? Now I know you're kidding - either that or you're a person who likes to waste money. We're not talking about asking money back from your Aunt Edna -- WDW is a business. And once again - no one is encourging anyone to demand anything - only to ask a simple question.

WDW is a business, you are right. They are not a charity. What money was wasted? The AP was 9 months old. When you purchase an AP it can be for the possibility of multiple trips or for hotel discounts. Why stop at pregnancy as an excuse for getting the AP extended? My grandmother died a couple of days before a WDW trip and I had to postpone my trip. Should I call Disney and ask for an extension? Is it Disney's fault that someone is pregnant and doesn't want to risk it? Sure they can ask Disney all they want but they also asked HERE. So therefore they should be prepared for the answers they receive.

I certainly don't know the answer to your question, but I do want to say CONGRATS!! I've lost 4 myself and for those wondering why you've waited so long to inquire, I know exactly why!! Once you've had a miscarriage, the next pregnancy you spend every day wondering if today is the last day of that pregnancy! You worry about traveling when you may lose another angel. You don't want to have a strange doctor and hospital for something so intimate and painful. You are probably still wondering if it's real or just a dream! Bless you!!

This is stupid of me to keep this going - this, I admit. But the OP asked:

"I know I am grasping at straws, but does anyone think disney might allow me to trade my APs for some tix I can use later? We only used them for 4 or 5 days I think. Thank you!"

She wanted to know if someone can tell her whether or not it was possible - not if it was "tacky". Seriously, who cares if someone on this board thinks it's "tacky"? It only matters what WDW thinks. And there might be someone here who actually knows the answer.

And one more time -- I really think you'd enjoy the debate that is discussing this very thread. There are people that are just as appalled as you over this lack of tact!
