So you are out of luck if you dont receive a postcard? I have lived in Florida all 27 years of my life and been to Disney about 20 times....but not postcard to date.

Someone suggested that they might release codes to different geographic markets. Don't know if it's true or not. I live in NJ and have never received a code. Lots and lots of people in NJ go to Disney World. Maybe we can get folks to post what major city they are near to see if it holds any truth!

not at all. if you watch this board close enough, you will catch wind of private/public codes which you can use to get a discount off of a room. my recent 40% discount for my upcoming trip to AKL was received in this fashion. i found out about the code, did my research to obtain this secret code and then called customer service to obtain it. after a few tries, i finally got the code and i'm all set. i never received a postcard or email for this recent discount i received for my room.

You mean that if I just keep searching these boards, at some point and time there will be some sort of indication that there is a discount out? Should I be searching one area in particular?

I was fortunate to get the 40% code postcard and it was for various dates:

Most night now - Feb 7 (rec'd this post card in January)
Feb 25 - Mar 7
May 28 - Jun 3
Aug 21 - Oct 6
Oct 21 - Nov 3
Nov 11 - Nov 16
Dec 9 - Dec 22

Unforutantely none of these dates worked for me. However, I was able to obtain a great rate with an upsell rate to the Poly which equaled to a 40% off the rack rate. I am just spending $78.00 more a night then I was with staying at the CSR with the AAA discount.

Since the original 40% of post card covered the majority of the year, I don't know if another one would come out or if the upsell's are what Disney is doing now.

An upsell is when you call Disney and you are randomly given an upsell to another resort (usually a deluxe). Read the Upsell thread to get more information.

Those dates were on the postcard that I received in January along with others, You needed to book by March 15t to use this 40% code. There is no way knowing who will get them or not. It is another random Disney thing.

Depending on the season the AAA discount varies. I was booked at CSR (moderate resort) during the value season and had a 20% discount off my room. I had a waterview room rack rate is $160.00 and the AAA rate was $128.00. This is based upon availability too. The discounts also vary from season to season and resort type too. I am a AAA memember and didn't purchase the AAA card solely for our Disney trip.

Another suggestion is to call Disney periodically and see if there's a code or pin attached to your name. I didn't receive the actual "postcard" until 2 days before the expiration date.

I read about the code on the boards and just called to check on it. After going to disney yearly since 98, this is the first pin I've had, that I know of.

mousesavers.com has a page that gives historical available-to-the-general-public discount dates...i.e., when the discounts became available and what periods they were good for. I don't think I can post the direct url on these boards, but go to mousesavers.com and search for it. It is under the WDW resorts category.

I'm confused: do you have to have a reservation in order for them to look up your name? Otherwise, how would they have your name?

Also, does the 40% off code apply only to rooms or the entire package?
