Any Cape May, NJ Experts?

I'm thinking about taking a day trip to Cape May, NJ. It is about a 3.5 hour ride for me. I've never been. I'd like to get there fairly early in the morning, find a place to park and go on the beach for a little while, and then maybe do a little exploring, have something good to eat, and then come back home.

I have done day beach trips to OC, MD, Fenwick Island, DE, etc. and am usually able to find a state park that accommodates day visitors and has shower/bathroom facilites. Does such a place exist at Cape May or is it too difficult to be a day visitor?

We have visited Cape May many times and a few times as a day visitor and we are about 3 hours away too. It is such a beautiful place. I don't know about any facilities like you mentioned, sorry. I just wanted to let you know that it is worth the drive for a visit there! We love the shopping area and the trolley tours. We just walk around for hours looking at all the beautiful houses. There are some great restaurants, all different kinds and something for every budget.

I take day trips down to the Jersey shore quite often. My aunt actually lives in Cape May. The only state park that I know of is the Cape May Lighthouse State Park. I do not believe that there are any changing facilities there. It is worth the trip to the park not just for the lighthouse but also the nature trails and to see the WWII bunkers on the beach. They were once actually inland. Sunset Beach is also fun at the very tip of Cape MAy. If you are looking for a place to shower and change you can go a little further north to Wildwood. Maybe 5 or 10 miles. I know there are changing facilities there right off of the boardwalk.

Make the trip it is worth it. Cape May is a lovely Victorian town.

We go there every year, matter of fact we are going tomorrow. Apart from all that has been mentioned try a dolphin or whale watch tour. Its a nice experience.
