Just wondering if anyone on the board is Canadian and if so how was your purchase experience? Did the exchange rate affect your decision to buy at all?

:wave2:

Welcome to the World of DVC!

I am a Canadian that has bought both thru Disney and gone thru the Resale Route. Disney was less painless due to the fact that you don't have to wait thru ROFR!LOL

I decided to purchase due to the fact that I was in a financial position to do so and when I sat and crunched the #'s, knew that DVC was the only way to go! Plus I got tired of drinking NON Coffee at the food courts!LOL

Our Dollar doing so much better lately was only a part of the decision. Don't forget, there are yearly maintenance fees and who knows where our $ will be in the future but at least I have my DVC!

There is the option of renting out the points! But I prefer to use them instead!

Good Luck with your decision!

We had to purchase through resale as Disney was of the view it could not deal with us directly in Manitoba.

The purchase was done using Jerry at the Timeshare Store and went very smooth.

As for deciding to buy, the exchange rate helped out in the decision, but for us it was knowing we planned to return to WDW many times down the road. It started when we went for a meal a Cape May at the Beach Club. When we got home we thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be nice to stay there next time?". Then I saw the rack rates :earseek: :scared1: :earseek: and started looking at alternatives.

Scratch! you bought more! You are a bad girl!

But it is an addiction, I keep being tempted by the add-on offers, someday soon, I will give in and do an add on.

We did the minimum, bought on the cruise site unseen and we are doing two trips this year and I am borrowing a few points to go once more in the fall before my AP expires, oh yeah the discounted AP also an addiction.

We had looked at the VWL, when they first went on sale, and yeah the exchange rate was a factor in not buying. But by the time we bought at SSR, we knew the main reason was to stop "throwing" money away on disney rooms. Now we get to go more often, we have a nicer room and the trip cost is lower.

All our purchases went off wihtout a hitch and the exchange rate had no bearing on it as it was something our family wanted so we bought it.

We bought direct through Disney, they make it so easy and it was not high pressure sales. Since, we live in Nova Scotia we had to buy when we were in Disney....but we knew when we went that we were going to buy.

As for the exchange rate, it wasnt a factor. This was is us dollars and if you stayed in dis hotels that would be us dollars.

Where are you from granolacruncher11?

Good Luck with your decision

Purchased two resale contracts through the Timeshare Store and had no issues. I would have liked to have purchased through Disney, but the option was not there.

As far as the exchange rate, it was a consideration in my purchase (but not a deciding factor). I viewed it as a hedge against future de-valuation of our dollar. If the dollar improves I lose a bit, if it goes down I gain.

Personally, I find it comforting to know that if the dollar tanks again I only have to worry about my dues on an annual basis. I would rather pay $600 US a year in dues then $2,000 US - $3,000 US a year in hotel costs should our dollar tank ;) .

We bought at BWV five years ago- the dollar was weak :guilty: . That said -we have never regretted the purchase. It provides us with a great relaxing vacation every year :cool1:
