Hi all,

Just wondering if there's any Canadians out there that own a part in DVC...
Considering it ourselves but would like some advice.

Thanks.

Yes there are!

Basically, if you go to WDW at least every two years, then you are a candidate! If you go more often, then definately!

We're from Ontario. Purchased in 2004, should have purchased in 1995 when we first considered it, but glad we have now. Friends of ours have been members since the beginning.

Do any of you Canadian DVCers know if a US bank account is needed to set up automated withdrawls if financing DVC thru Disney? Does it need to be an account at an actual branch in the US or can it be a US account thru your Canadian branch?

One piece of advice which is for every DVC purchaser but certainly more pertinent for Canadians: ask tons of questions, think of where you would LOVE to stay, and think through different scenerios for you future travel patterns as best as you can.

It's more pertinent to Canadians because if you need to sell a contract, to make some changes to your DVC inventory, the US government automatically takes 10% of your sale (taxation on non US residents on point of sale of property). And then if you didn't make a profit it is quite the process to reclaim it.

We thought we knew actually what we wanted....SSR only. Extra 12 years...we are not planners so 11 months window was irrelevant....and we like SSR. Then we stayed at BW and thought, "oh boy we love it so much we could change our no planning tune".

So our sale of one of our SSR contracts, to buy some BW points, was smooth (Disney actually bought it...ROFR). But it's obviously better to get it right the first time especially with the non-US resident 10%.

Best of luck in whatever you decide. Enjoy.

Hi you need to have a US Bank account in the US they would not take our US Canadian account. So they take our dues off our credit card once a year.

If you live in Ontario you can get financing direct through disney intested rate from 10.95 to 12 % I believe.

Would have joined sooner but did not know since we were in Ontario we could get financing through Disney thought we have to pay in full with a loan from our bank. I have a name of the rep we just dealt with so you can PM me if you need more info.

Hope you join we are glad we did.

We just bought SSR this year, first heard of it 13 years ago and didn't buy. Then we looked again 3 years ago, went with the plan in 2005 to buy. So glad we did. We have 3 trips planned in the next 12 months. Our whole family are Disney nuts and enjoy the quality time we spend together. Now with DVC and the extra trips during the year we can take more time to relax and slow down.

Just joined (Aug), on our very first trip. My DH loves it because it keeps me out of trouble - too busy planning!! Glad I found DIS, had some great advice on all the questions I've asked, both on the DVC Forums and the Canadian Planning Forum. Fortunately, whether by chance or by good insight from our Guide, we ended up with the Feb UY we should have, as most of our plans are to travel in March. Since going through DIS I've realised just how important that can be.

Good luck with your decision. BTW, we're in Ottawa.
