Any Canadians Honeymoon at WDW...Planning Advice Needed!

I tried posting this on the Weddings and Honeymoons board but got no response so I thought my fellow Canadian DISERS may be able to help me.

Although I have been happily married for 12 years and have enjoyed many trips to WDW, Disneyland and even a couple DCL cruises with Dh and the kids...my girlfriend who is getting married in August and sees me as the "Disney expert" and would like me to help plan her WDW honeymoon (also her & hubby to be's 1st trip to WDW) except I have no idea where to start . So I have come to you DISERs in hopes that you can provide me with some tips and tricks to planning a fabulous honeymoon at WDW on a moderate budget. Any advice, info or links to other sites would be greatly appreciated.

We were married at WDW and of course spent our honeymoon there.
Help her choose a special meal or two..
Bride and Groom ears were fun..as was the bride & groom pins!
One of our guests picked up a M & M bride and groom xmas ornament for us-nice momento!
Cirque would be a great show to see for a speical occasion like that.
Romantic things..fireworks of course...beach at the poly...horse drawn carriage ride at POFQ

Agree with POFQ, my gf stayed there, she loved it. Quiet and beautiful, not over run with kids. (as far as disney goes) Said the carriage ride looked nice, about $30 or so I think.

A dinner at Le Cellier is a must. There's a lighted boat parade that goes by the MK resorts, the Poly beach is a nice place to watch. Not sure if they shuffle off non-resort staying people...? Anyone know?

do you have any other details that she's given you - i.e., mod, as in a modest budget or they're staying at a mod? do you know their resort, dates, etc.?

there used to be a very good book by the perlmutters about romantic trips to wdw, if you can find it, it's a great resource

also the books (birnbaum & unofficial) for wdw w/out kids

hey there i honeymooned in disney and loved it. We were on the disney dining plan so being the nut researcher i was i planned a nice meal every single day culminating with using two table services each at california grill at the contemporary. I made sure to have reservations about an hour before the fireworks were scheduled and requested a window seat. Make sure you mention its their honeymoon as they will try to go out of their way to get you a window seat although its not guaranteed. We ended up getting a window seat, they decorated our table, free glass of champagne, and a special desert were given to us. It was the highlight of my trip. I recomend the cheese platter. It was fantastic!

Other then that (and the other restaurants i enjoyed eating at) we just enjoyed each others company. We took it liesurely (spelling) but i made sure we started each day at the parks at ropedrop in order to reduce waiting in line. Just enjoy the parks is my advice. Get the big rides done in morning and just enjoy the parks in the afternoon and just do whatever catches your eye. The patiserie in france was fantastic for lunch. The theming was fantastic and the food was fantastic. Might not have been france itself but it was good enough for us! Stop. Watch the street entertainers. They really are great. Whatever you do if one of you gets tired then take a break. Dont worry about seeing everything. You wont. So dont bother stressing each other out on your honeymoon.

I don’t have much to add here but am enjoying the tips. Me and my FH are Disneymooning in WDW next October at the Port Orleans Riverside resort on the dinning plan… so ill be referring to this post for others suggestions

Oh also whenever reserving any meals make sure you mention its for your honeymoon. Often you will get a special desert or a free glass of champagne.

Also get the disney wedding ears. During the year of a millions dreams it attracted alot of the cms to us. Free fastpasses etc. If anything else the ears are a nice addition to your pictures.

We Honeymooned there back in 1993! Stayed 2 weeks at POR. We had a lot of relax time - did the parks either early morning or evening and almost every afternoon layed by the pool sipping cold drinks from the bar.

We had a meal at Hoop Dee Doo Review and I recall that if you were celebrating something, they gave you a glowing pin and sang to you - essentially you become a part of one segment of the show. DH hated it - I enjoyed it! I might also reccommend asking if there is a pin you can wear - there is for birthdays and I am sure I saw ones for Just Married....it is great because the CM's do tend to make a fuss over you.

I would recommend that they have dinner at the Poly and afterwards they can take a stroll on the beach at sunset and try to get a hammock to swing in. They can also rent a boat at their resort and take a boat ride one afternoon. Boardwalk is really the only evening adult location left so an evening at Jellyrolls or ESPN might be fun also (check who is at ESPN - there was a sports personality there when we wne tand DH was so happy).

As I recall we napped alot in the afternoons so we could enjoy our evenings out. Look into the new Celebration themed packages that can be arranged - I am sure Disney is doing something cool for Honeymooners.

How did you enjoy POR? Did you get any extra perks while you were at the resort?

They could register for the "honeymoon registry" at Disney....we did and ended up with several hundred dollars to spend on our wedding/honeymoon trip!

DonnaBoo, I am trying to recall what the resort did and I don't recall anything AMAZING. Disney was so different back then. It was early April and there were NO LINE-UPS! I even have video where the characters are just walking up to people in the streets - now you line up for an hour to see them!

We did have a bottle of champagne and chocolates in our room but I think my dad did that - not the resort. Of course I also did not know what I could ask for or how to "play up" my celebration!!

Back then, Riverside and French quarter were different - in fact - our resort was called Dixie Landings. I think it was relatively new and that is why I chose it - plus it was either a week at Grand Floridian or 2 weeks at Dixie Landings!

Oh I just remembered that we also had airbrush tshirts done at DTD that said we were on our honeymoon. Still, other than the evening at HoopDeeDoo, I don't recall anyone making a fuss over it - DH was happy about that.

We spent 3 weeks at WDW in 98 for our honeymoon and made sure to stay at different resorts and not spend every moment at teh parks. We did lots of shopping and many off site trips. We did however spend almost 2 full weeks at teh parks. We stayed at All Star Sports to start off then moved to Coronado Springs.. Loved this place then over to Dixie Landings (old age home) then off to home. We didn't go by any schedule we just tried to wing it and made no plans what so ever this was by far the best way to make a trip fun and enjoyable especially if it is going to be their first trip.
