my husband and i are considering dvc and i'm just wondering how you guys are making out. Do you use your points as much as you thought you would? has anyone tried using their points for the worldwide travel and how has that worked for you? Is there anything you wish you would have known before buying?

thanks for your help

but there are others that have been longer and can better assist in answering your questions.

As for me, I just wish I could have afforded soon! But Good Things Come to Those that Wait!LOL

Hello: We are DVC owners We have 300 points at Beach Club Villas. We just bought in August and all our points have been spoken for(we had 450 for the 2004 year). I rented some to others. I think we will not have any problem using our points. Our plan is to rent approx. 100 per year to cover the dues and use the rest personally. Ay question just ask. Good luck.

We have no plans on using our points at any place but WDW and the Disney Cruise so we would be useless to ask about world travel with points I do know it is not as point friendly when you stay outside the DVC family of properties.

We have been members since 2000. I love it! We go every year and it works for us. Our home resort is BWV and I only have 150 pts. With those points and careful planning, we have stayed at Vero Beach, Hilton Head, OKW, Wilderness Lodge, and Disneyland Paris. We have also been able to invite my brother and his family along.

I think if you are addicted to the mouse, it is a good investment.

Good luck,
Louise

Love our DVC...in fact, we love it so much, that we're already "borrowed" into next year's points....but love the 1bdr!!

We own 160 points at BCV, and are planning an OKW add on, especially with the announcement of a pool slide being built there. But SSR looks AMAZING too...decisions decisions!!:D

Good luck with yours!:sunny:

My husband and I are seriously considering buying into DVC. I'm not worried about having to use my points up because I have three sisters who would gladly rent them off of us if there was a year when we couldn't go south.

We have looked at resale but we are trying to find out how difficult or easy it is to book at other resorts at the 7 month mark. We'd love to have Wilderness Lodge as our home resort but it is only available by resale.

Do any of you current DVC'ers know if it is difficult to get into WL at the seven month mark? If it isn't then would we be better off buying at HH or VB for less money and then being able to stay at WL.

On the other hand Saratoga has a lot more years on their plans. Not that I'll probably be going to disney when I'm 92, but hopefully my kids and grandkids would make use of it.

Too many questions. Maybe I NEED to go to Disney so that I can get the information first hand. After all, March break is only two weeks away.

Have a great day!!!

Hi Susan we have had no troubles getting any of our requested resorts @ the 7 month window and we own @ HH and our add on is SSR.

We have owned at BWV for four years now. we love the flexibility, if we want a short visit, we can book a studio. or bring company like this year, and have a 2 bedroom. We adore the BWV, location its amazing, but if we feel like something a little out of the way, we can go for VWL. This makes us take holidays, if it wasnt for DVC, im sure time would go by without any family vacations. Can you tell we love our purchase?

Hi all

We own since 2001, 230pts at OKW. It is probably the best investment we made.
We bought by a resale via Timeshare Store and had no problem at all.
Our son is 15 now and still want to go to WDW each year, then, we go to the World at school break (in 2004 we will try christmass). When DS will not follow us anymore, we will do the cruise and after that, exchange around the world.
If you can afford it, don't hesitate to own. Never forget that DVC is not a "financial" investment. The value of a DVC is not measured with a calculator but with the hart.
In 2001 we gone with MIL and this year, we will bring our niece to give her at least one happy souvenir for the rest of her life. (her life is not an easy one).
Last year we wanted to go to BWV and had the reservation instantly on the phone, but I phoned at 08:00 the first morning of the 7 month period.

If any of you want to have more info, just ask by my email adress.

Canadian in Houston here... We have 2 contracts. Bought our first in '99 (BWV) when we lived in Oshawa, and our second (VWL) after our move to Houston.

We now go twice per year, June and November. We've used our points for 1 trip to california, and the rest of our trip are to WDW.

Susan: Regarding WL at 7month window... Of course, it depends on what time you want to go. For the most part, I have never had any problems making ressies at non-home resorts at the 7 month window, but if you tried to get WL for xmas week, I'd say you'd be out of luck. You should base your decision on where you want to stay the most. As more resorts come on line, I think these smaller resort like VWL will become harder to get. Also, "cheaper" is hard to predict. Most of your costs will end up being the maintenance fees. It's hard to predict future fee trends. VB, as an example has had dramatic MC increases over the years. Good luck!

Stay warm everyone...

Thank you for your responses to my specific questions. We love Wilderness Lodge. For us it is our second home. I am a bit leary of buying resale so that is what is making us look at Saratoga again.

I guess I need to do the math. Darren, when you financed through Disney were you able to put down as much as you wanted. I think that may be the way to go because it makes the monthly payments much more manageable. The 10.75% interest rate does make me stop and think. If we could put half down and then finance the rest it would help me to justify the high interest rate on the other half of the principal.

Too much stuff to think about. I think it would be easier just to impulse buy after a presentation.

Have a great week everyone!!

Hi Susan yes you can put down as much as you want they require a minimum of 5% but I know we did 10% and lisas parents put down close to 25%. It all depends on how much you want to lay out up front and it will also help with the monthly payments. If youput down 10% or more you can have your monthly payment come right off your Visa or Mastercard which is what we do it maes it much more conveniant. If you have any more questions feel free to ask and if you are at the London Dis meet which I am pretty sure you confirmed for we can talk about it more there and bring out our books for you to look at to.
