We have booked our flights with Continental and just wondered what everone's thoughts are on them recently. The last time we flew with them was 2004 and it was great, just kind of hoping that it's the same next time!

I flew with them in november from edinburgh > Newark > Orlando.

I chose them as it meant I didnt have to go to london for the long haul leg. However, I wont again. Continental was £300 dearer than flying BA to gatwick then virgin to orlando. Also the plane was rubbish! No seat back tv's, uncomfy seats and a very small plane. When we go off in Newark, we ran through customs then got back on the same plane! However we had to get different seats and had to take all our stuff with us. Fair enough, but I wont fly with them until they upgrade their planes. It just like flying on the old airtours planes, or with Globespan, but at twice the price.

Avoid.

That's a shame that you had a bad experience. We were really pleased with our last flight with them. To be honest we are flying with them more out of convenience than anything else, the other options were either Manchester or London and the extra money on car parking or a bus to get there would have cost us more in the longrun and with the two kids it is a lot easier to go from Birmingham - we live 5 mins from the airport.

Gems,

We (me and hubby and our 3 children) flew with Continental last October and it was the best airline we've ever flown with and we've flown with a few! The staff couldn't do enough to make our flight comfortable. The plane was spotless. There seemed to be a constant flow of drinks and food. We flew Shannon to Newark, then Newark to Orlando. We were actually full getting off the plane and, as I say, there was a constant supply of drinks (tea, coffee, water, soft drinks etc). The staff were extremely kind and friendly to our kids, even our fussy 2 year old! There were no seatback TVs (we knew that in advance) but it was fine and I'd choose the great service over seatback TVs any day to be honest. I know some of their planes do have them - check out www.seatguru.com for more info on that. Just to add both the international (SNN to Newark) and the domestic flight were excellent.

I highly recommend them and will be using them again. :thumbsup2

Back to say that the Birmingham/Newark route uses the Boeing 757-200 too, same as the Shannon/Newark route, so chances are, if you're in economy, you won't have the seatback TVs either but like I say it didn't bother us one bit!

I believe Continental is the only remaining airline serving free meals on U.S. domestic routes, on the longer routes. All the others either charge for meals or only give out snacks. (Not sure if EWR-MCO is a long enough route for meals.)

I like Continental but price is usually my #1 consideration.

We are flying with them from Edinburgh - Newark - Orlando for Christmas, as they are so much cheaper than Virgin from Manchester. When I booked I was told the planes would have back seat tvs to keep the kids entertained - as it will be a newer plane - lets hope they are right.

If thats the case then excellent. I would agree with the other posters that the continental FA's were great. Meals were good, service and drinks were good, but the lack of seat back tv's absolutely destroyed the journey. My three year old DS was a nightmare! We flew 2 months before with virgin and he sat peacefully watching tv the whole way.

We are going back on 26th nov doing virgin manchester to MCo. 2 adults and DS for £801 all in. continental are £1534 for edinburgh > Newark > MCO. Just not competative at the moment, even if they have added seat back tv's.

Will try again for next year. Hope they are cheaper by then.

We are flying on Christmas Day - Cheapest day by far! We need to fly as near to Christmas Eve as possible as we will be closing our shop for three weeks and this will give us the most time away without having to get cover for the shop.

I agree with the other posters that the service and friendlyness of the staff was excellent. We got a turkey roll and some snacky carrots on the flight between Newark and MCO which was actually really nice!

I shall check out whether we will get the seat back tvs, but that doesn't worry us for DD as she will have our DVD player to watch anyway.

we used them last Oct
Belfast - NY - Orlando
had a free stop over in NY for 3 days
no TV in headrest
great service , will use them again if the price is right
going with Delta this time €200 cheaper each @4 = our hotel in NY
