Any better groups at renting DVC points?

I’ve rented to a few people on Facebook Disney groups. Any other better groups than this one to rent on? I can’t rent on here because I haven’t been active for 6 months, despite being a member for years so that’s lame!

It’s really not lame.
This isn’t a rental site. The owners allow active users to rent out points for free and don’t want people to just come here to advertise their points.

If you want to pay a small fee, you can bypass the 6 month rule since you have been registered for more than 6 months.

But it’s fine for someone to make a new profile like I did years ago to rent from someone?! Make it make sense!

If I wanted to pay a fee, might as well go with a broker and rent out through David’s or Dvc rental company.

The policy serves more than one purpose.

I’ve rented from people who interact in this community. It helps add an extra level of safety. Somebody who’s been here for 5 or 10 years, or very active the past couple years… I think it less unlikely they’d put up a rental just to scam somebody. You see in Facebook groups new people coming on everyday out of the blue trying to scam.

You are coming off very rude when I was just trying to help.
I believe new potential renters have to make at least 10 posts before they can private message a seller about renting points so they do have some restrictions.
I don’t work here so I can’t say for sure but my guess is that the 6 month rule is also to slow down scammers. Most scammers aren’t going to waste 6 months posting in different threads to make a fairly small sum of money.
I haven’t checked recently but I’m quite certain that davids will charge well over $30 to list your points.

I have used multiple rental sites and rented them to friends. I prefer renting to friends. It is easier to sit down and get everything booked with them. I have been flexible with my terms and never lost points. I rent for more than the rental sites and they get points for less than the rental sites. Best thing, no 1099. I'm sure you don't get a 1099 from DisBoards either.

The R/T Board is provided as a service for the DIS Community and as a free benefit for active members. The moderators are volunteers. DIS Rent/Transfer Board rules (and fee-based rental plans) were primarily instituted to minimize scammers. The rules have been in effect for more than 12 years and have occasionally been updated.

I often wonder why some believe they are entitled to take advantage of the DIS community for free.

I guess you want to move off Facebook because you're competing with all the scammers there who claim to be renting DVC points?

The benefit to Disboards is that people who regularly engage on Disboards leave a history for prospective renters to follow. If you look up my history, you'll see posts about all kinds of things, including sample rental contracts, food, annual passes, driving to WDW, views from various rooms I've stayed in, and posts to rent extra points I had. People who have rented from me through Disboards can then have faith that I'm not a scammer just trying to take their money. The rule regarding recent posting is a well thought out policy that protects people from what happens on places like Facebook.

If you want to get past the requirement to be recently active, you can pay the fee to rent the points. The fee is ridiculously small, unlike the huge commission that regular brokers charge.

It doesn’t make sense to me that someone who joined DIS 2+ years ago & has tried to rent points from others several times including as recently as 2/23 suddenly has points to rent out - but I’m sure there’s a great explanation for this.

I see FB as the Wild West - unregulated & very much a caveat emptor environment. The brokers generally pay owners less (and lately one broker a lot less) but renting is their only business & they do a lot of the leg work & generally have protections of various sorts they offer renters. DIS is a big place, DVC rentals are but a small subset of the whole.

I like the protection in place here and that comes with activity requirements and clear history. When I rented from other people (2019), I specifically searched this board to do it...

However, as owner now, I understand the not wanting to pay to rent out something <50 points or a single night. When renting out these small amounts, I've found get a very fast response from people on the Facebook groups as they often have 40-80K members. If I had to rent out 200+ points, I would probably just pay the money here to do it or go through one of the brokers.

I'll also note that I'm more of website stalker than a poster and b/c of that I probably will never meet the activity requirements. However, Internet forums have a way of coming and going (especially with the rise of FB and other social media over the last decade+) and requiring routine posting is one way of assuring that this one stays active.

Bought a resale with a bunch of expiring points. Again it doesn’t really matter because I can’t post them. And I’ve been renting for years on here and fb but when I saw Disney is passing all ROFR 2 months ago, decided to make an offer on a contract and finally own.

Yea I think I’ll just stick to FB for now. Anyways since I have a lot of rental history on there (been renting from owners for about 3 years) many people have researched me in the group and see I’m legit and have just rented from me.

Right and I wouldn’t be complaining if I just made my profile but again I’ve been on here for years! And have rented from others for years! So again I feel like I’m being punished and it’s not right. Just because I haven’t commented on random things in the groups.

Also it asks for proof of ownership and I’m perfectly happy to show my ownership on the Orange County comptroller and showing my dashboard with my points available. I’m ok with that but still can’t rent because I have to post for 6 months.

You are not being punished. You are simply not eligible yet to use that feature of the DiS community for free.

You don’t yet meet the criteria, which requires being an active member of the site, with certain number of posts outside of that board, spaced at certain intervals.

If you are not there, then you have the option to pay.. Not all rules will be things people agree with but for this site, the rules require you to do certain things to bypass the fee.

Love the bullying and sarcasm, shows me what a great community this is.
