Any bad luck with Standard view at Riviera?

Hi all,

I’ve read a lot of reviews of views at the Riviera, and the general consensus seems to be that the Standard view rooms have pretty good views, with some claiming that they are sometimes better than the preferred view rooms (fireworks, spaceship earth, etc)

We’re going there next year, and my booking window is coming up. So, I had a quick question. Has anyone been disappointed with their Standard view? If so, what was it a view of?

TIA

I had a standard on the 5th floor. It was in Jan, so no fireworks then, but it would have been a perfect view. Amazing to be able to see spaceship earth so close too!

touring plans has a free room finder with views, I highly recommend that!

Thanks. I’ll check it out!

The views are almost entirely of the parking lot. Depending on your location you can see the Epcot fireworks, if thats your interest. They aren't bad views per se. Just not anything to look at really. Riviera is one of the few places were we think a preferred view is worth the extra points/cost.

I’ve been on the 8th floor both times standard view. The parking lot doesn’t bother me (just like the parking lot at BLT doesn’t bother me) especially when sitting because you can see the air balloon ride at Disney Springs and lots of trees and Bonnet Creek. Also the sunrise. We could see Epcot fireworks and MK fireworks in the distance. I think we also saw the giant Ferris wheel at night at Universal.....but that May have been from a lake view at BLT. Preferred view would get you the sunset and whatever fireworks they’ll have again at Hollywood. A nice view of the lake and CBR. Either way, it’s a great place. I don’t know if I would be happy with a room on the lower floors though, but you get what you pay for. I’ve been lucky.

Sure if you cant get the 8th floor :)

I’m not sure what you mean by this. I’ve been lucky to get a high floor.....if I got a lower floor I wouldn’t be happy, but standard view is standard view. I take my chances. I’m not one of those that throws a hissy fit at the front desk if I booked standard and got what I paid for.

I mean if you are lucky enough to get a high floor Im sure that does make standard view much better. This was my view from the 4th floor.

I've had two very different standard view experiences at Riviera. The first was ours, and it was an incredible view of Spaceship earth. I liked it just as much (if not more) than some of the actual Preferred views we've had there. The other standard view I saw was my in-laws room who had a view similar to the above post. It was a little further down to the right and a full on view of that rather ugly gravel area. So my experience has been 50/50.

Okay....your comment didn’t make sense to me when quoting my post. I actually had a very similar view to yours, but it was only one night in a standard view studio. We used extra points for years to get the better views, but we would rather stay a day longer by getting standard views at our home resorts. Some have been incredible and some not very.
Anyway thanks for explaining. 😀

We had a decent view but (8343) the palm trees were exactly where the fireworks were. But I mean you can always walk out to the parking lot to view them. Or from Topolino’s which I think you are allowed to come back up if you dined there for breakfast.

We had the fun experience of having an 8th floor studio with a standard view while my folks had an 8th floor 1BR with a preferred view across the hall. The standard view from that high was really good: we had a good look at Spaceship Earth, an especially lovely sight in the evening. The preferred view was, well, preferable: they have a sprawling view of the RR pool area and Hourglass Lake. It was really pretty.

Would I pay extra for the view? No, probably not...but it sure did help to be on a high floor. This has been a universal experience. The sixth floor at WL is infinitely better than the second floor, even if both are facing a staging/mechanical area. Ditto BLT.

we've done online check in already, any idea how we can request a high floor, on the app it's close to lobby or skyline station as preferences and nothing else?

If it’s a cash room or your own dvc points, you can call reservations and ask it to be added to your booking. If you rented the points, the owner has to call.

it's our own DVC points, we were wondering if we would have to call the DVC reservation line (and possibly wait on hold forever) or if calling Riviera directly right work

Or from Topolino’s which I think you are allowed to come back up if you dined there for breakfast.

My experience with Topolino's has been (unlike CA Grill) that you can go up there anytime. You don't have to had dined there previously. Their bar lounge/area is pretty large and I've never had a problem getting a seat. When I do they invite you to go on the terrace if you choose. They also have a separate bar on the Terrace itself but it's seldom open. Last time I was there the bartender said it typically only opens on weekends. At any rate, there's no requirement to dine there for either of these amenities.
