Any at home TA???

Just wondering if anyone is an at home Travel Agent??? If you have any advise, how you got started?

I do a lot of research for family, friends and our own vacations, maybe I should start getting paid a little for it.

Ok, probably not the best example but I too did a lot of research for family trips, friends, etc. and everyone kept telling me I should be a TA. Well, a friend had a travel agency so I asked if I could try it to see if I liked it. The first family I got were some friends of my parents. They had an idea of what part of town they wanted to stay in and didn't care if the flight cost more, they wanted a direct flight--ok pretty easy, so I thought. I found 3 hotels that met their specifications. I had not been to the area so I did some research for them on Trip Advisor and Travelocity. Two of the hotels came out ok and one did not have good reviews. They ended up picking the one with the bad reviews, against my advice, because they had good luck with that chain elsewhere.

Well they get back from their trip and emailed me a list of complaints starting with the hotel and how awful it was and how they paid too much for their flight but it was the ONLY direct flight from their town to where they went. They complained to me about the weather and the food at every place they went (and they didn't want me to help with that).

That was the end of my travel agency career.

I am currently a TA specializing in Disney and have a home based business. I mentioned on another thread how I got started and how it was a great decision for me and my needs. It is work but very enjoyable work.
