Since coming back from our London trip in August, I have been having chest problems and problems breathing etc. The doctor gave me 2 lots of antibiotics but none did the trick - over the weekend though, things gone from bad to worse and I went back to doctors today - he says that my breathing is very bad and has given me an inhaler and tablets for asthma.

What I didn't tell him thoigh, is that we brought a little extra present back home after our London trip - we got a rescue cat from the cattery as well as our own. The new one is very sweet, wants to sit with (or on) you all the time but she does moult a bit (not as much as when she first came though - put that down to stress) - and also now she can go out in garden instead of being confined to the house. Our existing cat does her own thing - not a lap cat and has very silky non moulting fur (but still very sweet, just a different personality).

I will take the prescribed medication and see how it goes but would be very upset if I had to lose our new cat - who had been in the cattery since April as no-one wanted her - she is a young adult.

I just hoped that someone might be able to offer some advice.

we have 2 cats and my youngest son has asthma and is fine with them but when we go to SIL house he often has an athma attack as her cats are really fluffy.

I read that you can become used to your cats so you might find that after a few weeks you might improve and get used to your cat. Hopefully that will happen but if not I'm afraid you might have to look at giving your cat away

I've got a cat allergy - itchy, puffy eyes and lots of sneezing - but it's not triggered by all cats. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not they are short or long haired as I've had some of my worst reactions to short haired cats.

Both my brother and I have a profound allergy to cats. We get rapid asthma symtoms that result in a very tight chest and difficulty in breathing in and out. My bro' was taken by ambulance to casualty for oxygen and a nebuliser on the last occassion he stayed at a friends's house and they put him in the spare room where the cats usually slept.

We have both been like this for over 20 years now, never had it when we were kids

I have very mild asthma, which i was diagnosed with at the age of 18yrs.Before the diagnosis i had always been around animals, was working in my Na+Grandad's pet shop from the age of 16-23yrs,and had 2 cats+a rat of my own.The reason why i am saying this is i was told by my Dr to find homes for my pet's,especially my cat's and to find a different job.As you can imagine-i did'nt-i don't honestly feel any worse by having them-although i do suffer alot with chest infections-which my(new)Doctor believes could be the problem.I also believe you can get a resilliance(spell?)to them, like i did.
See how you go with the medication etc..and then maybe decide from there.Good luck+i hope it does'nt come to it.x.
