I've looked through the newest edition of apa and have gone to owl purdue, but there are just some things that are a bit confusing to me. If anybody could answer these questions for me I'd really appreciate it. :goodvibes

In the new edition it says that section headings are to be bolded, well do they include the abstract and reference section as a section heading? Are those two sections bolded?

This is the first time I've ever had to use apa format so I'm a little confused, as far as structuring the apa paper are these supposed to be section headings labeling the sections of the paper in every kind of paper I write? For instance, I am writing a research paper and a summary of my class experiences for the same class and they are both in apa format. The research paper has been broken down into sections with section headings, but do I do the same for the summary?

Also I saw this on purdue and I believe it was like this in the apa manual as well but I just want to double check with someone, the condensed title and page number are a header not a footer, correct?

Thanks for the help! :cloud9:

Both Reference and Abstract are centered but no bolding or underlining.

Yes, the title and page numbers are headers not footers. The title is on the left and the page # is on the right.

don't have answers but when you do your footnote, endnotes or citations citatiomachine.net works really well!!

As an English major we always did MLA so don't have much luck

DH has to use APA format for a couple of classes lately, and I just googled APA generator and found some for him. Those generators are worth their weight in gold!

You should really be asking your prof...

I teach in Communication and have students use APA for REFERENCING and general instruction regarding headings, page numbers, etc.... the only thing I actually check is the referencing.

Unless you are writing a paper for a Psychology class, most profs (in my experience as a student as now as a prof) in other fields only request students use APA as a referencing system. My hubby did Psych and all of his papers had to strictly conform to APA style -- for 'submitted' papers (not final).

That is the thing with APA, there are two formats...one for papers being 'submitted' and one for papers being 'published', because the styleguide was originally designed for submissions to Psychology journals.

So, in all seriousness, you need to be addressing your questions to your actual professor for the class in question.

I agree about using citationmachine.net I have been using it for a few years and it's come in very handy. Unfortunately I can't help with the formatting of the headings as I have difficulty with it myself.
