Hi

Is there anyone on here who works for the airlines? If so, I could really do with some advice.

We're flying Man to Orlando on sept 25th with US airways. Just booked via sky scanner last friday.

I just logged in to the US airways site to check things and firstly they've stuck our surnames as both the first and surname :sad2: but more importantly they have us at opposite ends of the plane (rows 11 and 33).

I know as two adults we should be prepared to sit apart but my friend has only travelled to the USA once before and I'm terrified of flying. I tried to change the seats but it won't load the seating plan.

What is the best thing for me to do?

thanks

Not airline personnel but you should call them to sort out the names issue as soon as possible.

The seats thing can probably be sorted on the phone too, or at the airport.

Yes. Call them. We have flown with them many times and I've had to call them on occasion. They have always been excellent on the phone. The person who answers always seems to be able to deal with whatever query we have. I am sure they will be able to sort it out for you.
Always despite having had seat allocations before checkin we have been given different seats at checkin.

As others have said you must call as soon as you can about the names,I travelled to Turkey as partner at the time was docked their for xmas and so family or Gf etc was flown out to be with them, well when i went to airport that morning to get ticket my first name and last wa spelt wrong only 1 letter out of each name but they would NOT let me fly with that ticket!
they had no more seats left and kept telling me that that ticket was not mine! yet my name is Cindy not many going to fly with that name :rotfl: so i had to buy a 1st class one at £600!!!! for a short flight GUTTED.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I've phoned. The name thing was a mix up on their screens, they have it right in the system apparently (she reeled off our naes before I got that far) and we now have seats together :) thanks!!

If sitting together is of such importance you will want to remember that eventhough seats now might be selected together that does not equal a guarantee. If wanting to sit together; check in a.s.a.p. is the only way to make sure. OK sure, the gate-agent sometimes can switch things around a bit but that are such small numbers and very unlikely to happen as long as you are in regular seats with no extra "desire".

Until and at check in agents can change seating around for 1001 reasons, including yours and/or your friends. If not finding the desired when you can check in online; don't check in but make sure you are at the airport early. When not all are yet checked in, it's obviously easier to try and shift things around to fit your desires. The more checked in guests, the lower the odds and "just" fear of flying and/or not being a frequent flyer are not reasons most would even consider moving around already assigned seats. Many airlines and agents will try to work with travellers, so that in itself can result in traveller X being made happy changes travellers Y online/phone picked name but not yet checked in. So checking in early is a knive that cuts both ways for seating assignment; more odds of having possible changes changed to fit desires and less odds of your pick being reassigned for others.

Great news that they sorted your name out. Just out of curiosity.....did you only need to speak to one person?

Also, I do agree with the previous poster. Your seat allocation at check-in is the important one. Any seat you have now is not confirmed.

just a follow up question
I'm doing OLCI for the first time this year (going with carry ons only, so avoiding completely the kiosks and desk)

when does OLCI really start ?
they say 24 hours, but does that mean 24hrs to the minute, or is it to mean the day before departure ? (and in that event, what time do they open OLCI

(flying on US Airways, departure time 11:30)

With an 11.30 flight you would be able to check in online at 11.30 the day before. :goodvibes

Yep, thank you. I normally do online check in the night before and get to the airport 3 hours before (mostly cause I don't want a panicked rush) so hopefully we'll be ok. I just feel happier starting off with seats together. Thanks :)

Yep, it was just one person who sorted it all and very quickly too to be fair. I was on my lunch hour (worked til 9:30pm) so I was in a rush and it was sorted in 5 minutes.

I was going to say it's normally 24 hours to the minute (give or take a few).

Thanks again guys
