If you are picky about mattresses, you may want to bring an egg crate to put on your mattress before you make it. All of those cabins that I have been in have a plasticky mattress that is overly firm. A cheap egg crate will make it bearable. I know it takes up space, but not much more than a sleeping bag. Buy a large travel space bag to stuff it back into, or just toss it or pass it on.
The electric skillet is a GREAT tip! I used it for heating chili to go with the grilled hot dogs as well as all the breakfast goodies. I bought mine when I tent camped and now use it in my camper. An extension cord would also be useful so you can use it on the picnic table outside.
Did someone say board games? Also, a lantern so you can play them outside on the picnic table. And Ami's advice on the table cover really makes the tables more homey.
Bug spray is important as well.
Oh, and Jen, anything over 300 is just for bragging rights.
If you decide you like it, or plan to do it more, buy a big rubbermaid bin (so it fits in your vehicle) to keep all the camping stuff together in. We had 2 medium ones and a small one. The small one had all of our kitchen stuff like paper towels, plates, skillet, utensils, etc. It also served as a kitchen sink and a baby bathtub a couple of times.
The bigger 2 held sheets, towels, lanterns, flashlights, etc. I also packed our clothes in a bin so that they stayed clean and dry and my suitcases did not get messed up.
Oh, one more thing (I hope), don't forget to bring your toiletries in a seperate small bag for trips to the bathhouse. And don't forget the towels. I did once, running around in the woods to dry off tends to scare the other campers.
OK, that's all I can think of for now.
KUNGALOOSH!!!
