Any advice on planning an early Jan DVC trip?

My DH and I just talked about going to WDW Jan 1-7, 2007. We aren't ready to book yet (and we'll have to borrow pts) but I was wondering what crowds were like and if it will be difficult to get into BCV if we don't commit before the 7 month window when everyone will be allowed to book. We are already going in Oct and we probably wouldn't decide on this trip until summer. Is this another popular time for DVCers because of the super low pts? Thanks!

Hi!

This January was our first MLKjr long weekend using DVC. The weather wasn't really conducive to doing much swimming. I did go in on the day we left, but I had the pool and hot tub to myself. We had no problems with lines or making ADR's. Because of the shorter daylight hours, Wishes was shown at 8PM on Friday!

The first weekend in January 07 is the marathon weekend. We were there in 05 (temps in the 70's & 80's) and 06 (temps in the 30's at night, 50's during the day). Crowds were not too bad, in my opinion. For our most recent trip, we waited until September to make reservations at BCV. We waitlisted for a 1BR, and it came through in about three weeks. However, if you are looking for Jan 1 or 2, it might be a problem as I think that the Xmas week crowds are still there.

Hope this helps
Jim

It is a busy week down there with so many schools now having off that week. The last 3 years we went the first week in Jan but gave up on it for next year. It really is like a continuation of the Christmas Week with less people in the parks. OKW was at full bore with lines at check in back to the library. The weather was nice but that is just a good luck, it could get cold. They have 30,000 runners down there near that time. The second week of Jan there is 100,000 people at the builders convention which is an annual event down there now. The nice thing about the first week now is the Osborne lights are still up at MGM.

I know the weather is a toss up, but I forgot about the marathon that first weekend! Oh well, our school has changed its spring break from early March to late March and that has made us reconsider traveling to WDW then. Maybe we'll give January a shot and see what we like better! Thanks for the advice everyone.

Ack! We are going to be there then! Does this mean we are going to have large groups of builders in bright shirts roaming the parks . . . following their flag-carrying leader . . . while chanting songs about the evils of impact fees??? :scared:

We were down there this second week in Jan. and had a fabulous time. Noticed no bright shirts in large groups following any flag leaders! :teeth: It was a wonderful week with low crowds and we lucked out with gorgeous weather in the high 70's and sunny. We swam everday. You will have a great week!
