Hi, have previously travelled direct to Orlando via Gatwick but am considering flying from Heathrow leaving 13th Feb returning 22nd Feb.

All flights out of Heathrow involve stops and am not sure how much time is need to go through immigration and make the connection.

Does the luggage get put through automatically or does it need to be claimed and rechecked?

Which is the best airport to transit through?

All help welcome. Thanks, Camac

As you are clearing Immigration and Customs at the first airport you stop at in the US luggage needs to be claimed, but is labelled for the entire journey, so you just drop it off at a 'flight connections' belt.

I went via Atlanta earlier this month and it was so much quieter than Orlando for International visitors. As for time allow app 2 or 2 1/2 hours to make the connection comfortably, in case of any delays on the first flight.

Our connection was Detroit. As our flight was late leaving LHR & there were at least a dozen passengers making that connection, they held the plane for us. Generally a 2 hour lay over is suggested. Coming home we had about 4 -5 hours to kill, but they facilities were good. Flights were with NorthWest & Delta and they were fine. Down side was no childrens menu despite requesting them in advance. Would probably try to connect somewhere else so it doesn't feel as if you are flying further west than necessary. We still arrived at MCO roughly the same time we would have had we gone from LGW but without the hassle of the M25
