I'm planning a cruise on Magic that departs from New York. Where should I park and how much will it cost?

It costs $40 per day to park at the pier. It's obviously very convenient, but not cheap.

There have been several threads discussing this that you will find helpful. Here is a fairly recent one which includes links to some earlier ones.

As you will see, there are lots of options and opinions. Deciding where to park really depends on your situation. Are you driving in the morning of the cruise? Are you planning on coming in a few days early and doing some sightseeing in NYC? When we sailed out of NYC, we had no time to spend exploring the city, but wanted to be in the area the night before to allow for a stress free embarkation. We chose the (very popular) park/stay/cruise package at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ridgefield Park, NJ which includes parking for the duration of the cruise and a car service to and from the port. We thought it was such a great deal that we have booked it again for our next NYC departure in the Fall.

Have fun sailing out of NYC. The sail away is just beautiful!

We parked right at the port. It was $40 per night. They take cash or credit cards.

If you're within driving distance, you might consider taking the train in to save on parking costs.

We used ParkWhiz and Parking Panda Apps. We drove around and found garages a few streets away and prepaid using the app, then pulled in and parked. Actually the guys running the garage were helpful with that as well telling us to go online and prepay while waiting there for us. We actually dropped our luggage off when we returned at our car and spent most of the day in NYC as well. I don't think port parking allows that.

I can't say enough good things about the Hilton Garden Inn suggestion above. We did this in early November and it was a steal. We booked early, paid about $245 (pre-tax) total for one night, breakfast, a week's parking and great car service in luxury cars. Considering the GW bridge tolls are $15, this was a great rate. We called 15 mins before we disembarked through self walk-off and they picked us up across the street from the port. We were back at the hotel and off on our way home by 8am!

Not sure where you are coming from but last year we did the first Marvel Day at Sea cruise out of NYC and came down from Ottawa. I can pretty much drive anywhere but was not keen to take my car into Manhattan. So I left it at Newark at a long term parking and we took transit into the city for a few days, went on the cruise, car service back to the airport. I realize now that it would have been so easy to park at the terminal. Very easy drive in and you have your luggage right there etc. If I was doing it again I wouldn't do Newark
