I am camping for the frist time in september and I normaly stay in a value resort

Best advice is to start by reading this forum. Begin with the FAQ Thread here. Tons of good information of everything about the Fort.

Bring a fan. It's still a bit warm in September. You'll have a great time. :thumbsup2

First, welcome to the camping boards.

If you have never camped before, my best advice is to make sure you have a good list of what to bring. There is one here: Packing List for Campers

You haven't told us whether you are tent camping, or if you will have some type of RV, or whether it is just you, or if you will have children or other family members along. If you want to provide some details, folks would have an easier time giving you helpful hints and suggestions. If you have specific questions, ask away, there are plenty of people here who will be happy to help you.

If you are brand new to camping, I suggest that you keep it simple. I agree with DaveInTN's advice- read the FAQ section, and explore around a bit on the main camping board. Read a few trip reports- those show you what others have done.

You have been to WDW before, so you know something about how things work at WDW. Those things work the same at Fort Wilderness. The only thing different is that you have to supply your own accommodations.

Have fun!

Well...I have a feeling that you will soon find out just how WRONG you are! IMHO you will find yourself levels up from what you are used to at a value resort!:thumbsup2 My little peice of advise... try to make sure you make some time to enjoy all the Fort has to offer. And I'm sure we will be seeing you around here again soon!;)

Follow my advice. If you follow my advice, you will not be parted from your $$$.

My advice to you is...

DO NOT GO TO FT WILDERNESS!!

If you do not follow my advice, you will become a Fort addict. You will have a strong desire to get your own camping equipment, a golf cart, possibly a heavy-duty pick up truck, lots of tacky Halloween and/or Christmas decorations. You will be searching for instructions regarding building your own Mickey Lamp Post, and you will have sudden, uncontrollable urges to drink lots of beer and kungaloosh.

Do yourself a favor.....STAY AWAY FROM THE FORT!!

It just hit me,,heres someone who stays at a value resort,,but thinks that camping is for trailer trash :lmao:

Bless their little value resort heart. ;)

I do not think that at all

That's good to hear, not sure if you are familiar with these boards, but you will find out soon that many people think of the Fort Wilderness resort as a place for "trailer trash" and you may even hear this yourself if you ride the internal bus in the early evening to the Settlement Trading Post.

I know I did once, coming back to our site I heard a mother explaining to her little girl about how nice it was for Disney to make a place for the poor folks to go who could not afford to go otherwise. They were coming from another resort to enjoy the HDDR.

Some of the RV's in the Fort cost more than my house, and you will find that a site at Fort Wilderness can cost more than a night in the Value Resorts.

Anyhow, welcome to the camping forum and I hope you get to enjoy the Fort. It is a much more relaxing and peaceful place to stay for the most part.

If you listen to the DIS Unplugged podcast, they did a great review of the place a while back that is worth listening to.

I know it is not Disney like but can I please slap the mom that said that to her daughter. Somepeople just prefer to camp it is a life style choice not necessarily. I mean come on I consider the family I am going with to be a wealty family we just hapen to be a large group

Oh come on Frank. We're only one level down from a value resort. That doesn't make us trailer trash! ;)

Actually, we're one level UP from a value resort. Remember - you can get dining plans with a value resort, so that makes it cheaper in the long run. Lots of times you can get a value resort, with a dining plan - cheaper than a full hook-up site. I'm not even talkin' preferred or premium!
