Any advantages of one AP as opposed to two?

DH and I are SERIOUSLY thinking about going the AP route. What are the advantages (or disadvantages) of just one of us holding an AP? TIA!!!

Well the biggest disadvantage is that only one of you will have one. So while one of you may want to go to a park, the other may not want to because of wasting a day on their ticket or one may not be able to go because they don't have any days left.

Advantages are unlimted park admission for a year. And really that is all that should be looked at.

Sure there are discounts and perks but they aren't guaranteed and are subject to change at any time.

Room discounts for example used to be much better with an AP rate, they were a % off. Now they are a flat dollar amount off and from what I have been seeing they are fewer discounted rooms avail and the dollar amount is becoming less over time.

So its a gamble if you want to go that route.

Also last year there were many more ticket discounts (which was the first time they offered them) for MVMCP. This year there are only 4 dates.

So while the perks are nice, they are just perks and really should only be looked at for park admission.

Another disadvantage is that they burn a whole in your pocket. Its easy to want to take a small trip because you can and have admission.

It seems to me that the main thing to look at is if you will be returning to WDW during the year. For my family, we could all get APs at $441, or just one and then the rest would get 7 day MYW/E/PH. The savings will be about $205. pp. If we were going back to WDW within the same year, and had to buy passes for them again, the AP might be the way to go. However, if we don't plan to return, we'd be better off with the 7 day MYW/E/PH. Just a warning- if you both have APs, you will be very tempted to go back. Just think of all the money you will save!

I think it really just depends on how you plan on using them. If you are planning on going to WDW more than 10 days over the course of a year, then go ahead and get them. If you only want an AP to take advantage of AP room rates for a single trip, I would wait until the rates are out for the time you want to go, then call CRO and price out the room you want with the AP discount. If the math makes sense to buy the AP to take advantage of the rate, then just buy one - that's my opinion anyway. If you do this, keep in mind too, that while you are at WDW, if you are having a ton of fun (and why wouldn't you!) and you then decide you might want to come back during the year, you can always upgrade your non-AP ticket to an AP before it expires.
