Any advantage to having first night already booked?

When booking with non home points at the 7 month window at a highly sought after time, is there any advantage to having the first night already booked with home resort points?

In that situation, you will not be allowed to add nights with the non-home resort points until 7 months out from your second day unless, when you call 7 months out from your initial arrival date, that date itself is still independently available, i.e., they will let you add the other nights simply because you could just as easily cancel that first night and book the whole trip.

Maybe.

Some folks have reported that they were able to add on to an existing reservation using non-home-resort points when those dates fell into the "+7" time frame. But I have a feeling that's not actually in compliance with policy.

^Actually that is what can occur when that first date is itself independently available. The MS rep does not necessarily tell you that is why it is occurring.

No. You still have to wait for the 7 month window to open for the second night of your desired reservation before you can use non-home resort points to book the rest of your stay (assuming that the first night was not available when the 7 month window opened for it).
