Anxiety?

I found that CBT therapy was very helpful, as was EMDR therapy (the latter mainly for my PTSD, ironically caused by another treatment I underwent!)

Severe GAD here. I've tried every medication on the planet and they all turned me into a zombie. Finally went natural upon recommendation of a friend and found that lemon balm leaf works wonders for me. It doesn't take the anxiety away, but it takes the edge off and lets me live a pretty normal life.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

When it comes to psychiatric medication, it's definitely not a 'one size fits all' sort of thing. Sometimes you have to find the right combination that works for you. Unfortunately, in the meantime, finding that combination can be really challenging, to put it mildly. Hang in there.

Just out of curiosity, do you suffer from anxiety induced nightmares?

I was diagnosed with GAD when I was in high school. I wish I had been diagnosed sooner. I started off with taking medicine and CBT. With therapy I was able to wean myself off of the medication however I do return to CBT when necessary. Last summer I started feeling overwhelmed and went back and I'm so glad I did. I also highly recommend breathing exercises and visualization exercises for help with calming down when you feel a panic attack coming on.

I have anxiety too. Things like crowds and planning vacations don't really get to me, but financial issues do

I would also say that you should remind yourself that it will all be ok and if it is stressing you out, just cut back the planning and step away from the planning guides and boards. Analogizing to my own triggers, I recently deleted Facebook from my phone. I tend to go on it daily for distraction and entertainment but I found myself feeling really stressed and anxious with all the posts on my feed about the election (which, in my mind, leads to anxiety ridden thoughts about the future of our country and the world, and my kids' economic prospects when they become adults). Also, we are in the market for our first home right now, obviously an enormous economic decision, so with the election it is a one-two punch for my psyche.

So for you, I would remind yourself that any vacation is going to be fun, there is no such thing as perfect, just get your body down there, book any 3 FP's and HAVE FUN. Who cares if you meet A&E?

And most importantly, step away from the boards!

If you go out into a stressful environment, go with someone else. Regularly report back to them your anxiety levels - one to ten. If things get out of hand, have a bolt hole and get out of that situation. Just a suggestion, helped me a bit :)
