A few weeks ago we had a new roof put on the house and since then I have been getting ants on the ceiling and upper walls of my kitchen. Could there be a connection? If not, where would they be coming from, they are all up high and what can I do to combat them?

Are they BIG BLACK ants? We had those in the ceiling of our basement at another house. They are Carpenter ants, and they chew wood. They are about 3/4 inch long. Maybe the workers stirred up a nest of them when they worked on your roof. If you don't feel comfortable about trying to find the nest, maybe it's time to call the exterminator..

No, they look like regular ants, however they are a brownish-reddish color (but not red like fire ants). They almost look like they have antena, I have never seen any quite like these before.

That's good that they aren't the wood-chewing carpenter ants that we had. Is there a place where you can set out ant traps close to the ceiling, or maybe in the attack near their entry? My DH doesn't trust exterminators, so I hated to even mention them before. If they are small ants, maybe you can do it this way...And this may be worth a try...I saw a little blurb on TV yesterday that said that ants won't cross a chalk line-they don't like the feel of it..Of course, they would probably just find somewhere else to go...

For the little ants that aren't the Carpenter (large) ants, put out ant cups near their path. They will take the bait back to the nest and feed their friends. Good bye ants!

LOLOLOL!  Sorry! You're just confirming my suspicions that this area of Virginia has some pretty unique and interesting "breeds" shall we say? I've seen quite a few things here BIGGER and stranger looking than we ever had in Florida. I think the state bird here is the mosquito for sure. They are huge!

Ants...I had a few here a while back. They finally made their way into the pantry. Found the little buggers on the inside wall, the wire shelves in there, and the open packs of food. Got rid of everything open and vaccumed them...a few times. No problem since. Haven't seen any. But if they were still here, I'd definitely be calling an exterminator.

I have seen quite a variety myself, I keep asking DH what gives with all of the bugs!
