We just got back from a 8 night split stay at Wilderness Lodge and Polynesian. We swam in the Wilderness Lodge pool one day and quickly got out because there were so many ants in the pool. I think they were ants...they seemed to have wings. And it wasn't a few here and there, I kept getting them in my hair and they were everywhere. Is this normal for the pool? We swam in the Poly pool as well and no ants so not sure if this is due to the wooded surroundings or if this was a one off and we went in at a bad time. It was really off-putting and we did not go back to the pool after that. This was our first time at Wilderness Lodge so I don't have anything to compare to. Is this normal there?

This happens at our community pool here in Southern CA at least once a year. It's often gnats, but sometimes ants too. What happens is usually a bunch of them die due to pesticide use in the area and they end up falling in the pool. Eventually, the filters will take care of them. I spoke to the pool guy one day about it when it was really bad and he said there is nothing he could do about it, just have to give the water a chance to circulate.

I know what love bugs look like..this was either carpenter ants or termites. They were not little like gnats. I was just curious if others had noticed it in this pool. Hopefully just a one off.

This happens to us occasionally in our personal pool. Ants fly in swarms, like bees. If they are passing through, if there’s a strong enough wind, they will be blown into the water and it will look like ants fell from the sky. This wasn’t any fault of Disney’s, this is just mother nature taking place!

Wasn't implying it was Disney's fault. I was curious if it was because of the surrounding landscape as I have never experienced this in any other Disney pool.

The OP was there during the beginning of love bug season. She said she knows love bugs so they were probably, as said previously ants or termites. I've seen them swarm out here where I live but it's normally one day, two tops. I wonder if they could run the skimmers for an extended period to clear off the floaters. My neighborhood has no woods but we still have those flights for a day or two.
Also, just a reminder to those reading this, Love Bug season is actually twice a year. Mid April to mid May, and September through early October. I've actually found that location is a big factor in how bad the love bugs are.
