Anti Viral Diet.......since flu is the topic of the day:)

The best way to avoid illness, of any sort, is to eat properly....lots of fruits and veggies, lots of water, cut way back on your sugar intake. Makes sense doesn't it? But, people would rather eat their usual diet and then take a ton of pills to ward off disease.

I know that my daughter will be seeing an awful lot more of the leafy greens once she's back on her feet! I'm certain that if she'd been eating better she wouldn't have been caught by this stinkin' thing. I feel sooo guilty...

But you bet we'll be having salad with every meal if not other veggies, fruit with breakfast, the whole shebang! :thumbsup2

my husband's boss came to work and told everyone he read or watched something that said vitamin d could help your body fight off h1n1. I don't know where he saw or read about it, I never heard anything about it. But... hubby had regular flu shot and just came down with something nasty yesterday, woke up in the middle of the night with chills and was running a fever all day yesterday. They almost shut down some of the schools, we were only a few kids away from meeting the quota for this.

here is my easy way to get healthy leafy greens into my kids........

"green" smoothies, but they don't look green:)

I take 2 scoops of chocolate protein powder, throw in a banana, spinach, ice cubes, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk,
blend it up and it is so chocolately and good, and they have no clue they are getting a few servings of greens in there :)

My hubby really gives me grief about eating veggies but loves chocolate...I might have to try this one on him and see if he notices!!!

I've read several studies about vitamin D and flu (including swine flu). One was about a hospital that had 2 wards of swine flu patients, one set recovered pretty easily the other had it bad. In looking at the patient records, the only thing different was that the doctor for the fast recovering people prescribed them 2000IU of Vitamin D3 a day.

Most Americans (according to several recent students) are likely to be VERY deficient in D3. At my last endo check up I was so low that he put me on 50,000 units per week for 8 weeks to bring things up. Now I take the 2000 a day.

I've had students out sick (my uni is having serious problems with it at the moment), but hubby and I (I am making him take the D too) haven't had much more than a very minor allergy sniffle all semester! Usually by this time I'm sick as anything (I usually catch everything the students have).

The research suggests that being low in D3 impairs your immune system.
