Ok so a large ant thing has bitten me and my arm is swelling up. I have no money (college student), no anti-itch cream or anti-histimine. So what can I do??? My arm kinda feels funny. I'm still able to resist the urge to scratch but it is getting hard....help!!!

Very possible that you are having an allergic reaction. If you start getting hives, swelling, blurred vision or any other weird feelings get to a Dr - have someone take you. Really not something to mess around with money or not.

How long ago was the bite & how fast is it swelling?

It swelled immediately at the site. The arm began to swell within the hour. The itching has subsided. It is still red and a little black dot is in there still. It got a white head on it, so I drained that but it is still swollen and red. Last night my arm went a little tingly and numb in the are but that has passed. I think I may give it one more day just to see.

are you sure it was an ant thing and not a spider thing?

Call an urgent care center and see what it costs to be seen if you don't have insurance. I'm surprised you are allowed to attend college without insurance - I wasn't at the undergraduate or graduate level. That aside, I would not take the numbness/tingling thing lightly.

Is there a student health center on campus? It really sounds like you are having a reaction and should get it checked out.

Make a paste out of warm water and baking soda. My son has horrible reactions to all kinds of bites (not as severe as you have described) but he says that the paste helps the itch and pain.

It will flake off after a while so be ready for a mess.

Benadryl will help with the swelling, there are generic brands that arent' very expensive.

Really sounds like it needs to be looked at, especially if there is a possibility it could be a spider. - Look up a brown recluse spider, they have a really bad bite.

If you were severly allergic you would have gotten much worse, if you get bit again and you are allergic it will probably be worse. I didn't realize I was allergic until I almost died from a wasp bite. I made it to a hospital in about 30 minutes with very little time to spare. Previous to that I always swelled badly but nothing more.

Update:

First thank you for all of your concern, the toothpaste has helped in the itch. That part is pretty much gone. Still some heat their though. It is a reddish tint because its still new, but all bug bites on me are. I swear one little mosquito bite makes a swelling, but goes away after an hour.

So after work tomorrow evening, if it is still a little sketchy I'll go by the hospital. Hopefully it won't come to that! I really don't know now if it was a spider or ant. It was either a large black ant, or a smaller black spider.

Yeah don't mess with that. My Husband got bit on his toe at night by something last week tuesday night 2 days later his foot was swollen went to the Er Friday night got some medicine (it was too late) it didn't fix his foot went to the doctors Wednesday morning was told it was bad go see an oncologist later in the day oncologist said he was surprise he is even limping and ended up having sugery from the infection on his toe this morning. Thats how fast thing can get bad.
