What exactly did Barney Rubble do for a living?
At several points throughout the Flintstones's first run, it seemed as if Barney worked with Fred at the quarry he bowled on the company team and even once held an executive position there but in other episodes, particularly those where Fred lost Barney his job, his career path was convoluted at best. Mr. Rubble, voiced by Warner Brothers stalwart Mel Blanc, who also provided Dino's bark, collected paychecks for positions ranging from furniture repossessor to travel agent and private investigator.
In specials and installments produced after the original series, Barney was more likely to be portrayed as a colleague of Fred's, but, again, that status was iffy.
