We are a family of 3, 2 adults and an 8 year old, have 7 TS meals on the DDP and these are our ADRs:

'Ohana dinner
Chef Mickey's breakfast
California Grill dinner
Kouzzina dinner
Tony's Town Square dinner
The Wave dinner
Sanaa dinner
50's Prime Time Café dinner
Crystal Palace breakfast

That's 10 TS credits. I was planning to pay for California Grill and Tony's Town Square OOP to get us down to 7 TS meals on the DDP. Is that the best use of the DDP? Comments or recommendations most welcome?

Thanks,

Martin

Without knowing what you would be likely to order from each menu, it is hard to know which restaurant would be the least expensive when paying OOP.
Tony's would be a good guess, but it would be just that. You would need to look at the menus, price out what you would likely order, and see for yourself.

CG could be good to pay OOP as long as you think that you won't be likely to order the most expensive items on the menu.

I'd split things up a little.

If your 8 yr old is on the kids plan, I wouldn't do her/his Cali Grill OOP. They can get $24 worth of food on the DDP at Cali whereas at your other non-buffet TS, the kids' meals are all under $10. So, I'd choose three of those to pay OOP for your 8 yr old and use DDP for Cali Grill for her/him.

For the two adults, I would choose Cali for OOP for several reasons. The most expensive entree is $44, so even with dessert and drink, it's only $60-65. That makes your TS credit worth about $30. If you do this one OOP, you're free to choose apps and sushi to go with an entree or as your entree, and these would not be covered by the DDP.

Tony's or 50's Prime Time would probably be good for your other OOP. Check out the menus and see what you want to eat.

Have you ever been to Tony's before? I personally would skip this and book something else. It was the worst meal i've ever had. Just awful. If i paid for this meal OOP i'd be so ticked! If you must go and pay OOP, stay away from anything with tomato sauce in it.

I think CP breakfast would be cheapest to pay for OOP. I did that on my past trip. As the OP said, 50's is also a good choice for OOP.

Thanks for the suggestions...

I plan to stick with California Grill OOP because we'll order appetizers and/or salads in addition to the main course and would be paying a portion out of pocket anyway. Looking at the menus prices for Tony's and 50's are identical for what we would choose so one of those will be the other.

I've read widely varying reviews on Tony's all the way from from Christine's "worst meal I've ever had" to people who love it. We've never been and this trip is all about trying new places so we're going to give it a shot. (I've noted the same wide ranging opinions for Kouzzina. too.)

Thanks again,

Martin

The other thing to consider is to do 1 meal oop and 1 meal DP at some restaurants. That way you have a dessert included that can be split between people. (Normally everyone doesn't need a dessert... so splitting one saves you some $$ oop.) I figured out last trip that to really maximize it's better to figure out how many "TOTAL" for the whole group meals you have and then work from there. For adults you actually have 14 credits so I'd look at something like this:

Ohana dinner -2 c
Chef Mickey's breakfast- 2c
California Grill dinner- oop (use child credits here though)
Kouzzina dinner- 2c
Tony's Town Square dinner 2c
The Wave dinner- 2c
Sanaa dinner- 1c/ 1oop
50's Prime Time Café dinner - 1c / 1oop
Crystal Palace breakfast- 2c

The kids meals are all about the same price as far as off menu restaurants with the exceptions of CG and buffets. So I'd probably go with 50's , Sanaa, and Tony's.

That is actually an excellent idea that I never even considered. DW is definitely a dessert person, as is DS, while I on the other hand would prefer an appetizer or salad to dessert. I will definitely have to consider this alternative...

Thanks!

We do this quite a bit since dxdp is often to much for our length of stay but we do more than the ddp allows. That way we get a meal and dessert, and then the oop normally gets an app and a meal. Best of all worlds and normally WAY less than dxdp for us.

Although I do love dxdp when I have excess cash.....not sure when that will happen again since it's now $90 a person! :scared1:
