Another when should we go question

We have reservations at POR for Aug 5-19, preferred room with military discount. (Wanted a garden view, but only available options were pool and preferred).

However, the school calendar was just changed to start after labor day. So, assuming the military discount is available, should we change our dates to Aug 12-26?

As a family of 5, and not a fan of CB, we would stick with POR vs. changing resorts in order to change dates.

Pros and cons of both trip dates please! Thanks.

I'd switch to the 12-26. That is when we go every year and enjoy the lower crowds. All the locals are back at school

If you would like advice with this, a lot of the schools in my area start mid-August. Schools are going toward the mid-August start time now than starting after labor day due to wanting more time for students to prepare for tests at the end of the year. At least, that is one of the reasons. You will probably still see crowds whenever you go.

When I was an occasional visitor I would always go the last week or two of august. I always found the vacation to be really tight to those last minute get ready for school things including a rest after your disney marathon vacation.

I wouldn't call any of august low crowds but I haven't done early august much to be able to make any accurate statement on crowds. What I do know is pandora might be opened by both of these trips and i'm expecting crowds to be higher than normal.

Side note: time to time (including closer to the trip date) check the rooms available. I once had to pick a room I didn't want at POFQ and then a couple months later the room I did want appeared as an option for my discount and I was able to change to the cheaper room and save more money.

It seems that later August tends to have lower crowds as many kids have already returned to school by then, so if it were me I would go the later dates. There are some crowd calendars that you can check to see if that is what they are predicting.
