When I stay at the Lakes I normally ask for a room with a lake view not a pool view. That usually accomplishes avoiding the noise from the pool as well as the buildings closer to the front that kind of make a box canyon...sort of. Plus if you get a view of the big lake its a great view.
All three of my stays at the Lakes have been great. If you won't have time for the pools you probably won't have time for the resort. The onsite restaurant was pretty good also...both in its incarnation as a seafood restaurant and as a bbq place. Check in is pretty efficient. There was an ice cream shoppe and deli in the check in building. I haven't been there in 3 years but at that time the food was good but pricey...ditto for the minimart. If you'll have a car I'd head over to Doctor Phillips to get food (Turn left when you exit the resort then make a left at the first traffic light you come to...not sure of the road names). Go up a little bit and there is a regular grocery on your left...behind it is a big lake.
PS. If you do have to do the tour (and they don't always seem to ask at the lakes...I've only had the routine once). Just smile and say no thanks. I'm not interested, no thanks. Smile, smile, smile. Smiling will actually make you feel better and not giving out any info about yourself will cut the interview very short.
